Hispanic Scholarships And Grants

Cathy Said:

Where can I find scholarships or grants for mixed students?

We Answered:

I recommend using a combination several approaches to locate scholarships and financial aid for college. There are scholarships for many things including ethnicity, religion, hobbies, and club memberships. All the sources, that I mention below, are free to locate scholarships and apply for them.

First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will tap into need based financial aid from the state and federal governments along with the college itself. For the fall semester or quarter, the application becomes available on January 1. A person applies each year of college until graduation. It works for undergraduate and graduate school.

Second, current high school students can locate local scholarships at the high school guidance office.

Third, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies.

Fourth, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. I recommend searching for scholarships based on both being a Latina and African American female. Most are updated on a regulra basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

Help!!!! Hispanic Oriented Scholarships, grants, etc.....!!!!?

We Answered:

There are a lot of grants and scholarship opportunities available to Hispanic students wishing to enter or continue school, college and university education. The majority of Hispanic grants programs are particularly aimed at Hispanic students with a Latino heritage, although this is not always the case, the federal government also supports Hispanic students who are natural or registered U.S. citizens as equally as any other average or minority student through need-based grants program.

Do some research on the internet for Hispanic Scholarships and Grants, and make sure you complete a FAFSA application as the majority of Pell grants and other federal aid is given to minority students each year.

Hope this helps?

What do you think of scholarships and grants based on race?

We Answered:

If you checked out the dude's spelling above me, apparently, the government thinks that he needs the education more than we do. lol

Seriously, though. Reverse racism is everywhere. It's not just in the schools, but it's in all aspects of the nation. I went to court the other day, and 90% of that court room was hispanic. They were being given six months to pay off their fines (if the fines didn't get dismissed), and when I asked for time to pay, she gave me thirty days.

Trust me. It's all over the place. I think that the only reason that I haven't tried to go over to the UK yet is because we have epidurals here. haha

Where can we look for scholarships or grants for my brother?

We Answered:

Do this first:

www.fafsa.ed.gov

After your brother (if he works) and your parents file taxes, fill that out and see how much your EFC is. If it's a "0" then just wait until he finds out how much aid he's going to get from school before you go searching all over the place for scholarships.

After that:

Once you know how much he's going to get from the school (it usually takes a couple of months to find out) then you can check out scholarships.com or fastweb.com. I wouldn't recommend doing this before he finds out how much he's going to get from the school because he'll have to report to the school how much money he expects to get from scholarships and that will affect how much the school gives him.

Your brother really needs to be doing this stuff for himself, most of the applications need personal information and some kind of essay. He's an adult and will need to take responsibility for this stuff, the financial aid agencies will want to communicate with him not his siblings or parents.

Discuss It!
