Bobbie Said:

i really want to go to ivy league ..?

We Answered:

The Ivy League (or Stanford/MIT/CIT/Northwestern) does not look for well rounded students (3.5, key club/played football).

They look for stars: 4.3 - founded a business that made money in 10th grade - All-state football 2,100 + on SAT's. Even 2,400 SAT's can, and regularly do, get turned down.

So, find something you really want to do, and want to be the best in the world at, and go for it. Raise your grades and do as well as you can on the SAT.

If you are top 5 in your class (not top 5 %), have made a significan leadership contribution to something you are really good/pasionate about and kill on the SAT's, you have a good chance of admission.

Good luck.

I have an art show today....but im ashamed?

We Answered:

You have already won! Your piece has been submitted. The competition will be great, so there is no disgrace if it does not win first place. Honey, do not deprive your Mom of this! This is exciting and win, lose or draw she is going to talk about this for years! Let her bring whoever she wants and just bask in this moment. You,too, You are an Artist. Art is subjective, everyone knows that. Be proud of what you did, winner or not. Enjoy this-this could be the first step in a long career in art. Don't spoil this-you already won! I am proud of you just reading this. Your Mom must be over the moon-look how many people you already were selected over. Go, and have fun.

Step from National Merit Semifinalist to Finalist?

We Answered:

I don't think you'll have a problem becoming a finalist. Let me know how it turns out.

Violet Said:

Help? If I stopped playing sports would that hurt my chances of getting a scholarship?

We Answered:

You should be fine with quitting sports. I quit sports my senior year last year and got a couple of great scholarships for college. Colleges are interested in academics, commitment, and leadership. Quitting sports tends to downplay your commitment, but you can emphasize your commitment in other areas of your life and really play up your other leadership roles as more important to you. Don't stress about it. Apply to a lot of colleges and make yourself look as committed and driven as you possibly can. You should do fine.
