Merit Scholarships For High School Seniors

Neil Said:

Anyone know how to obtain the Michigan Merit Award Scholarship?

We Answered:

Student Requirements:
Completing an associate degree, or
• Completing a vocational certificate, or
• Completing 50% of the requirements of a
bachelor’s degree (60 semester or 90 term credits
in “for-credit” course work)
And
• Achieving a cumulative grade point average
(GPA) 2.5 (or for students who attend a vocational
institution that does not record grades, a certificate
of completion).
• Completing an application (see Forms and
Documents Section).

Lewis Said:

High school senior, counterparts and classmates get scholarships, I get none. reason?

We Answered:

Your EFC is way too high to receive any Title IV funding, except possibly unsubsidized stafford loans. As far as scholarships, you are requesting to be sponsored for money by a limited source, so scrutiny will be used. There could be several reasons as to why you did not get approved for scholarships, but the bottom line comes down to, the people who have made the decisions believed their money was better placed with other candidates. Don't be too hard on yourself. With an EFC of 35000 (and that isn't a dollar amount) it doesn't sound like your family should have any issue paying for your schooling anyway. Good Luck

Can I graduate high school or should I drop out?

We Answered:

stay in school, you'll regret it if you drop out...you'll have a horrible future and you will struggle in your finances and you will be unhappy and you will be sad and you will commit suicide.

Morris Said:

where can i get merit based scholarships?

We Answered:

I would start looking for scholarships that are offered by local clubs and organizations in your area. Your high school counselors might have a list of the scholarships you can apply for (mine did). There are also tons of national scholarships to apply for throughout the country, you might want to start looking online. Almost any large corporation will offer scholarships, and it doesn't hurt to apply. My biggest advice would be to start looking right away and to keep an eye on deadlines.

the website www.fastweb.com is a great way to search for legitimate scholarships.

One final note, not to be a "downer" but don't necessarily expect merit based scholarships to provide for all of your expenses, I graduated with a 3.96 and a 31 ACT score, and only ended up with a little over 2000 in scholarships (which hardly makes a dent in my 20,000 + tuition for the University of Michigan)

PSATs and Merit scholarships?

We Answered:

Depends on the cutoff for your state. But if you are a National Merit Semifinalist, you should know by now. Since your score is a 213, which would be high enough in some states but not in others, I cannot tell you for sure if you're a SF or Commended, but when you received notification from guidance about your recognition, it should have said whether you were a semifinalist or a commended student. If you're commended, it does look good on college applications, but you will not advance to the next round of the scholarship competition. If you are a National Merit Semifinalist, you should have received a packet that has a form for you to fill out, and if you qualify as a National Merit Finalist, then you have a chance at winning a NM scholarship. Whether you're a NMSF or NMC, it'll look good to colleges both ways.

Yolanda Said:

So I have a minor depression problem (high school senior)?

We Answered:

well first off, i understand you. i hate where i am right now too. it's kind of affecting my grades, but i'm doing my work just so i can maybe get out and study abroad. the only way i know of to deal with that kind of depression other than doctors and medication and such is to just do what you have to do to get out. think longterm. as in, even beyond graduation day. go all the way to your job in your head and just move towards that. if you have your circle of friends, hang with them. sometimes it works to make small goals for each day as far as school goes, or to just find a way to fill your free time and keep yourself from thinkiing too much. i watch anime, make amvs, cook, whatever. just stay busy until you can sleep.

and yes the SAT score will help. you had AP classes, so is that 3.4 weighted or unweighted? i had a 3.2 unwieghted 3.4 weighted when i got in places. the difficulty of your school will work in your favor, as well as the time in other countries.

as for sports, at some schools even if you don't make the college team, you can play on an intramural team. i'm not sure what the difference is, but that's maybe a possibility.

and it's not really necessary to have not had the girlfriend. i'm in college and i still haven't had a real bf either. you'll do better in college where there's a bigger range of people and more people accept you. i wouldn't worry too much about that one.
