Can I be an officer in the National Guard by doing Army ROTC in college? We Answered:
Yes you can. You can serve in the National Guard while doing Army ROTC in college in the Simultaneous Membership Program(SMP). Just talk to a local ROTC Guard liasion about it.The National Guard and Reserves are both part-time. 1 weekend/month, and 2 weeks/summer. So you will be in the Guard while going to college. So the Guard will pay for your school while you're actually going there.
The Scholarship is only 2-3 years, but before you get the scholarship you can still use the Guard benefits to help pay for school. The scholarship just adds additional benefits, and covers almost everything, and commits you to join the Guard once you finish ROTC and commission.
For regular Army and AF you would just do ROTC, possibly with a scholarship.
