Poetry Contest Scholarship
Dave Said:
What do you think of this poem? Could I send it to a poetry contest or scholarship? We Answered:
I would think a "defect of perfection" would be the one flaw in an otherwise perfect creation. My two cents–and worth exactly that. There was a time in antiquity when great artisans included a flaw in their creations to "prevent the gods from becoming jealous." A defect of perfection?

Is the Live Poets Society of New Jersey High School Poetry Contest a scam?We Answered:
oh wow theres many give aways, first all you see is words on top of big bold words constantly. theres relly no lay out to the page and no pictures. they have advertisments of holtinternational to make you feel good about it. all they have for a addresse is a p.o box number and an email addresse at comcast, seriously if it was ligit they would have a better email then that. (that was toward them not you).also it said 1998-2003 either they didnt think it would last that long or they just got lazy and didnt change it.but just think about it like this if they have all this money to give away scholarships like nothing, then why do they have such a poorly formed website and using a p.o. box? a kid could wirte html codes like that which leads me to believe that not many people are in on this scam, but anyways i just wanted to give you some pointers to look for if you ever have this problem again.Debra Said:
Does any one know any Poetry Contest In LA County? We Answered:

poetry contest?We Answered:
Before you enter any contests, check with Preditors and Editors and Absolute Writer Water Cooler's Bewares and Background Checks forums. Poetry contests are notorious for being scams. Both sites can let you know if the contest you are considering has recieved complaints in the past. While you are at Absolute Write Water Cooler, sign up and go to their poetry forum. It's run by a really nice guy named Poetinahat. Tell him I said hi. Their poetry forum can help direct you to legit contests. Ask a lot of questions. They will be happy to help you learn your way around poetry contests. Steer clear of poetry.com. There is your first piece of advice. It is a total scam. Pax - CConnie Said:

collegefinder.my-age.net - try this site. It has info about different US scholarships for college students and their grades requirements.Wesley Said:
I am thinking of entering some poetry contests for scholarships. Help?We Answered:
Poetry is an odd field in that LEGIT competitions have fees - they are usually for full manuscripts and usually cost around $25.00; the prize is usually publication of the manuscript and an advance of perhaps a few thousand dollars. Competition is incredibly stiff. The fees cover the costs of paying the judges, bringing the winning book to print, and the cost of any advance given.Be very, very, VERY cautious if you see any advertisements for free poetry contests. There are lots of these, they are for single poems, and they promise large cash prizes. What actually happens is that everyone who enters becomes a "semi-finalist" whose poem will be published in an anthology and on coffee mugs and such. These rackets make a lot of money selling $50.00 anthologies to hopeful poets. Avoid them at all costs; they are simply scams that prey on your dreams as a way of separating you from your money.
One thing you could do is look around for legitimate civic organizations (like your local Rotary Club) that may be having essay, poetry, or speech contests for local students. These types of contests usually have very small scholarship prizes, but if the organizations are legitimate, their contests will be also.
Poetry very rarely pays. Even many of the most successful poets must supplement the income they make from book sales. Some have day jobs, and some are fortunate enough make a decent living from the fees they collect from speaking at colleges and universities.
No matter how talented you are, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to find and win enough legitimate poetry contests to even buy textbooks.

Is the Live Poets Society of New Jersey National High School Poetry Contest legitimate? We Answered:
It looks like a scam to me.I don't have conclusive proof either way, but I have heard of similar things. I checked the Better Business Bureau and they hadn't heard of them.
A vanity press or vanity publisher is a book printer which, while claiming to be a publisher, charges writers a fee in return for publishing their books or otherwise makes most of its money from the author rather than from the public.
You might as well continue with the contest but DON'T GIVE THEM ANY MONEY.
