You've already answered your own question. You said that you want to stay in Texas after you graduate and that you want to go to a Texas medical school.

It’s much easier to go to a medical school in your state. The state feels they are making an investment in the state by accepting more Texans into Texas medical schools.

Baylor might be an exception, because it is a top ranked medical school and competitive.

Where do you want to do your residency? If it’s Texas then I would stay and go to UT Austin.

The thing about UT Austin is that the pre-med classes will be huge and have worse teaching than at USC. All the pre-med classes in undergrad are “weed-out” classes. Basically, the smartest students teach themselves the material and ruin curves on tests.

On the other hand, USC will be really expensive and you might not like the preppy rich-kid culture that it tends to have.

Don't look at acceptance percentages for undergrad schools, if you're not getting A's in Bio, Chem, Physics, Calc, Organic Chem and not getting at least a 30 on the MCAT, you're probably not going to med school.

It depends where you go to school. I had to take two semesters of calculus, two semesters gen. chem., two semesters organic chem., two semesters gen. chem. lab, one semester organic chem. lab., one semester bio statistics, and two semesters physics/physics lab in addition to my biology courses. It all depends on whether you want to go through all of that. Check with the advisers in the biology department for information on what your school requires.
