Are there any Scholarships for incoming college freshmen who have one deceased parent?

We Answered:

Scholarships are generally offered through the college. So you need to contact the college he wishes to attend.

I know that he is likely eligible for Social Security benefits as long as he is in school, and the retirement system for your father's employer may have scholarships. In fact I would check with every club your father belonged to, any union he belonged to, any college he went to, any relationship that he had while alive. They might have some benefits for college. Even if they paid some death benefit to help pay to raise you both.

Your school (high school and college) will be your best resource for scholarships and scholarship information. Look at their website. Often times they will list all of them online and the specific instructions on how to apply for each.

Lester Said:

what are some "not so typical" scholarships for college freshman? ones that nobody really ever knows of?

We Answered:

The best way to find scholarships is using the big scholarship listing books that you can check out from your local library. They list scholarships by your interests, college major, hobbies, race, etc.... I found scholarships for my son in those books that I never saw in an online scholarship search website.
