Scholarships For Education Majors

Julian Said:

Anyone know of scholarships/grants for those of us pursuing Education majors for a teaching certificate?

We Answered:

There is loads of help out there for those who want to persue a teaching certificate including a student loan forgiveness program and some scholarship programs. Also, I recommend starting at the community college to get prerequisite courses done at a cheaper tuition rate, but I recommend working with the college's transfer office from the beginning to select the right courses. I will include some free sources to locate money to attend college.

First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will tap into need based financial aid from the state and federal governments along with the college itself. It will enable you to qualify for the work study program which will provide both cash and work experience. The form becomes available on January 1 of each year.

Second, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Third, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

What are some good Scholarships for Elementry Education Majors?

We Answered:

Good luck with changing; every school and major has a different set of requirements before being accepted, such as GPA and prerequisites, or even letters of recommendation. As for funding, it makes more sense to apply for scholarships with a smaller pool of people, doesn't it? Because that increases your chances of being the recipient. I know my university, for instance, allowed you to fill out one overall scholarship application each spring, and then scholarship funds would be able to sort and filter through the online applications to find who they want. This is how I was chosen for several scholarships for elementary education. I'm sorry to say, but applying for state-wide or national scholarships is probably a waste of time, considering the likelihood of you winning (think of it almost as a lottery... would you rather be in a pool of a few hundred people or several thousand pool?)

Also, check with your financial aid office if there are any grants available to you, as these typically provide a lot more funding and act like scholarships in the way you don't have to pay them back. Good luck!

Does anyone out there know of good scholarships for education majors?

We Answered:

Hello how are you? What I suggest that you do is use a scholarship search. A scholarship search allows you to create a profile and receive information for all the scholarships that you are eligible to apply for based on your profile description, for example: a scholarship for a student who is pursuing an education degree. Scholarshipsupport.com actually has 2 free scholarship searches available right now. Also you may be able to find a grant on their site as well. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Ramon Said:

are there any scholarships avaliable for education majors??

We Answered:

There is a new grant on FAFSA called the Teach Grant. This grant is given to anyone who wants to teach. However, once you get this grant you have to teach for at least 4 years upon graduation. If you don't then you have to pay the grant back. There is a question on the FAFSA about wanting to possibly teach upon receiving your degree. You must check yes, to get the grant.
