Scholarships For Middle School Students
Gordon Said:
Does anyone know any sites that allow middle school students to apply for college scholarships? We Answered:
Unless you are planning to skip high school completely you really cannot apply for scholarships now. Scholarship, grant, and student loan application files are only held open for one year at the maximum. Having said that though, it is not too early for you to start learning about scholarships, grants, loans, etc. so you are well prepared for the application process as soon as it opens for your particular college freshman year!Of course there are many 'big name' programs out there, but there are also many - very generous - grants and scholarships that go unclaimed every year because no one applied! You can start your learning process by going to FastWeb. They have a very good questionnaire format that can help you find many elusive/unknown programs.
Another place to inquire is your parent's employer. Believe it or not many large companies, unions, etc. give scholarships to the children of their employees/members. Also look in your local community. Our community gives two scholarships per year to children living here. Often, fraternal organizations such as the Elks, Kiwanas, etc. give scholarships. While none of these may be very large - maybe only a few hundred dollars - if you win enough of them you could go to college for free. And by the way - even at Harvard, more than 90% of the students pay their way with scholarships, grants, loans, etc. So don't let anyone discourage you and I applaud your initiative!
Good luck!
