i agree. i couldn't even get financial aid in college, much less a scholarship. the lady that filed it for me basically told me to have a baby or change my race to get any kind of aid. i was working a 30 hr. a week job making $7 an hour and schooling full time with about a 3.4 gpa and had to take out thousands in loans. it makes no sense. if i was a different race i would have been funded. what the heck?

There are many scholarships and financial aid for minority students. It does not cost any money to apply or be considered for one. However, it takes time to hear back.

First, fill out the FAFSA form because it will tap into financial aid from the federal and state governments along with the college itself. It is decided on family income and resources. It taps into both grants and student loans.

Second, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for state grants for both criminal justice and college.

Third, high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships that current high school students can apply for consideration.

Fourth, the college financial aid office and website both have a list of prviate scholarships offered by outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list some scholarships, too.

Fifth,the local public library has a book listing scholarships, and some are not listed on the web.

Sixth, search for college grants via Google.com and Yahoo.com for your state.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on the information that you enter into a form.

The "Additional Details" you provided after the fact...you need to state this at the beginning of any future questions you post about this particular topic. (YA is inundated by a horde of "part-Indians" looking for handouts).

Just contact your tribal education office, they should be able to help you. If tribe doesn't provide financial aid directly, they should be able to point you to BIA Higher Education Scholarship or general NA scholarships from various non-profits. If you are 1/4 or more try American Indian College Fund.

Even without selecting a college, there are many scholarships out there for minorities including one to enter the sciences and engineering. I recommend applying for every scholarship you qualify for no matter the amount because it does add up in the end. Also, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites.
