Scholarships For Music Majors

Melanie Said:

Is Audio Engineering related to the major, Music?

We Answered:

well audio engineering is totally different. It's like a little bit of music theory then lots of math behind music.
For example making a sound proof room that has to do with audio engineering because you are figuring out how to cancel out the sound waves and etc. Or building some kind of electrical violin by studying the violins. Stuff like that

Margaret Said:

Music Education Major?.....or not?

We Answered:

I always tell my students that the great thing about music is that it doesn't HAVE to be a major or a career. It can be a beloved hobby while you do something else as a day job. The telling part is that you said that you "hate to practice." I was in sort of the same situation that you were, but once I got into the pattern of college music life, I was practicing four to five hours a day. Not that I couldn't have found something else I'd rather have been doing, but I enjoyed the results, and I was driven to keep up with my peers. And that was in addition to Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Trombone Choir, Brass Quintet, and Jazz Combo rehearsals. If you don't want to do that kind of practicing, pick something else and do music as something that you enjoy on the side.

Can music majors receive scholarships to buy a new instrument?

We Answered:

I believe you can use scholarships for anything school related... At least, that's how all of mine have been... I've used portions of them to pay for my apartment and bills, car to get to school - etc...

Raul Said:

Do I apply to colleges first and then schedule music auditions once I am accepted?

We Answered:

Hi, I go to a very well known music college. I applied, then they send me info on auditions, and then based on interview/audition they will either accept you or deny you. The earlier you apply, the better, because you will get an earlier audition time, and have a better chance of getting accepted.
