There are usually many different state grants available. I would contact the financial aid office of the school she is going to attend and see what else they have avaliable. Definately apply for the FAFSA. You can sign up at www.fastweb.com It is a scholarship website that allows you to create a profile and will find scholarships that fit your criteria. Also see if your town has an educational center that can assist you. The most important thing is for her to keep her grades up because many scholarships are based on GPA

There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $400, $500 or $1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it's chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $500 scholarships and it'll really make a dent in your tuition bill.

Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local chamber of commerce/rotary/ lion's club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria "hispanic women aviation scholarships" etc.

Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!

As orphans, they will qualify automatically for independent student status for federal financial aid. This will open up a lot of doors for them when they get ready to start college.

Just make sure they complete the application for federal financial aid in the spring of their senior year in high school. The deadlines for state and school scholarship applications are usually the end of February.

There are scholarships for many different reasons out there including wearing duct tape to the prom. However, there are thousands of scholarships out there and places to locate financial aid for college. All sources are free.

First, fill out the FAFSA form as soon as the income taxes are filed. It will provide need based financial assistance based on the family income and resources. It will bring need based financial aid from the state and federal governments along with the college itself.

Second, college financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies.

Third, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships current students can apply for consideration.

Fourth, the public library has a book listing scholarships. Some are not listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search.
