Sharon Said:
Scholarships for aspiring writers?We Answered:
If you are GOOD WRITER and SMART then you can go for National Merit® Scholarship Program. To qualify you need to be one of the 50,000 out of approximately 1.4 million entrants each year in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test(READING, WRITING & MATH)Then out of those 50000 only 34,000 will be elect to second round (even if you did not get elect, you might still receive Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.) 16,000 students will elect to third round, 15000 will elect to fourth round. 8200 will go to the final round in which all will receive FULL SCHOLARSHIP, you'll also complete for 50 $2500 "SPENDING MONEY" (one per state).
Dependent on where you live, for example The New York Times offer College Scholarship Program. Each year selects 20 Times Scholars, students who have overcome exceptional hardship to achieve excellence in New York City high schools. Each student receives a four-year college scholarship, mentoring and summer employment.

How do I write an essay around 350 or 400 words? We Answered:
You can have 5 paragraphs but they would have to be really short , like 2 or 3 sentences for the introduction, and for the conclusion. Stay to the point , focus on what is important, rather than examples or experiences you had.Nelson Said:
what are some contests and magazines that creative writers can submit their work to?We Answered:
Duotrope's Digest has a webform you can plug your genre and wordcount and what you want to get paid into, and it will spit out a list of markets. Ralan's Webstravaganza has a page of contest listings. In general, standard manuscript format applies (although you'll want to check the guidelines for each publication to make sure), and you just write a very short cover letter with the wordcount, the title of the story, and any publishing credits you have. Then attach the story (usually in either .doc or .rtf format), append it to the bottom of the email, use the webform, or send it via snail mail (again, depending on the guidelines, and each market is just a LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, frustratingly enough).
If he's writing SF/F, then I highly highly HIGHLY recommend Writers of the Future. I personally know several writers who've ridden that particular rocket to success. It's a well-respected contest even if L. Ron was crazy as a bedbug. He still nurtured young writers, and that's what the contest is all about.
I start with the highest-paying markets and work my way down. Might as well shoot for the stars; maybe you'll hit the moon.

I am 14 and I'm already looking for scholarships(but where to find them?)?We Answered:
i'll read it..my email: Krista_mcdonald18@yahoo.comno offense but are you even in high school? ask your teacher where she expects you to get them because people don't give out scholarships to 14 year olds. you have 4 more years before going to college. they can't look at your last grades in middle school and expect them to be the same when you are in high school because you could completely change in those coming 4 years. its hard for juniors to find scholarships moreless freshman. most scholarships require a high school GPA up to 3 years and SAT scores which are 2 things you do not have. you can try going to fastweb.com but i doubt they'll have anything for you and if they are they will be for pure genius' with 4.2 GPAs or kids who are 10 and in high school because they are so smart that they skipped 4 grades
Good luck-ur gonna need it

Anybody know of scholarships for writers? We Answered:
There are a few sources for locating scholarships for free. There are many scholarships out there so do not give up hope of locating one. However, it is pretty competitive.First, I recommend applying in January or as early as you can with FAFSA.ed.gov because it will help you tap into need based financial aid from the federal government and college.
Second, if you will be attending a college within your state, instate students can get grants if they are a resident of it. It can be located by searching your state government's website.
Third, your high school guidance office, if a currently a high school student, has a list of local scholarships for its students.
Fourth, the college financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships from companies and organizations. Sometimes your potential major will have a list of scholarships listed on its web page, too.
Finally, there are free membership scholarship search websites, and I recommend joining several of them. Most are updated on a regular basis.
Good luck!
