Teaching Scholarships And Grants

Grants/scholarships for those wanting to pursue a teaching degree.?

Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the details of the Federal TEACH grant. The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education grant was created just 2 years, in 2007, in an attempt to encourage students to pursue teaching careers in high need subject areas, and especially in schools that provide education to low-income families.

The TEACH grant requires a commitment - if you'll sign a contract, agreeing to teach at least 4 years (of 8 total) in one of a specially designated group of schools, the Department of Education will provide a free cash grant of up to $4000 a year for every year of your teacher education program.

High-need subject areas include:

Bilingual Education and English Language Acquisition.
Foreign Language.
Mathematics.
Reading Specialist.
Science.
Special Education.

Of course, there are safeguards in place to insure that TEACH recipients honor their agreement to serve in a low-income school. Graduates who do not complete their agreed service will have their grants automatically converted to loans, which must be repaid.

For more information about the TEACH program, and how to apply for TEACH grant funding, you can visit the Department of Education website here: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/s…

Also be sure to check with your local school districts. Their certification department will have the best local information on forms of financial aid that might be available to students interested in pursuing an education degree.

Good luck!

What is the best way to find scholarships and grants for college? Going into Sp Ed teaching, CI and AI?

We Answered:

Check with the school district where you are. Sometimes they will give scholarships to people who are willing to work in that district for awhile. Or check with the special ed department at your university they sometimes get government grants to encourage people to study special education.
