Some Land Grant Colleges and Universities are HBCUs. The combination of federal and state financial mandates assure adequate funding which benefits many African American students as well as other Mainstream students.

Cultural identity can nurture and inspire discipline to pursue undergraduate and graduate courses of study. Interacting with African American and other Mainstream instructors who identify with some of the student background and potential hurdles facilitates successful vision.

Historical efforts to deny or discourage basic and higher learning for African Americans have deterred many from an educational vision. In many cases this has become an inter-generational apathy towards education.

HBCUs and Land Grant Colleges and Universities provide world class opportunities for all who discover their vast educational potential. When higher education becomes second nature to African Americans there may be a question of the purpose of HBCUs.

It is worthy to note that the quality of education at HBCUs and Land Grant Colleges and Universities is very Mainstream.
