I took the IB myself and find that universities in USA and Canada appreciate it a lot. remember that they don't only look at your overall grades but also at the subjects you took- if you check out university websites they keep repeating that they value students who challenge themselves. meaning that they prefer if you get a lower grade in a harder program/subject than if you go for the easier options (that's especially true for the USA, I'm not so sure about Canada, but I applied and was accepted by McGill and can tell you that they give you credits for it)... good luck!

There are scholarships you can get from specific schools and there are scholarships that you can apply for that apply to any school. For the latter, check out FastWeb.com. For specific schools, they have many different types. Very top schools often don't give academic scholarships, just need-based aid. Others give them for academics, service, sports, music, and specific majors.
