Could someone tell be about Wellington, please? How is life there? is it safe, nice place to live in?We Answered:
Armen (are you from Indonesia?)Wellington is a very cool city with a lot of character and a great University. The weather is generally milder than Christchurch without the extremes. Christchurch gets very cold at night in Winter and very hot in February and March. The wind in Wellington is a b*st*rd but you learn to live with it. Wellington is rated as one of the top places to live in the world, and it has the lowest crime rate of any city in NZ (NZ crime is generally low). I lived there for years and found it a ver safe place. Public transport is great and its easy to get around. Vic Uni is right in the centre of the city (the main campus is a short cable car ride from downtown and there are two campuses downtown where you can use library facilities and computer labs),
Christchurch is nice to but not as convenient. The University is in the burbs (suburbs), public transport is also good and that helps. You can also use a bike cos its flat and there is a lot of student flats near the university. There is some weird crime sometimes in Chch it has a bit if a dark underbelly, but I've never had any problems there. Its still a safe place to live, especially around the University and in the North Western suburbs or the Port Hills. I would recommend you find a place on a bus route close by the Uni.
I'm a graduate of Victoria, even though I'm from the South Island and could have gone to Canterbury, my family live in Chch and I lived there for a while too. I love Vic. But they are both great Universities.
If money is an issue, Christchurch is a cheaper place to live, although your electricity bill will be very high in winter if you are not careful.
Both Islands in NZ are very beautiful, but the South Island has more majesty with the Southern Alps. The community in the South Island is overwhelmingly European, in Wellington its more diverse. Wellington is the Capital. Its got a great buzz.
If it was me I'd pick Wellington, but even if you pick Christchurch you won't regret it. My advice would be to consider very carefully the reputatioins and the specialties of your proposed supervisors and oick the one who's skill set most closely matches your area of interest in your research.
Good luck. Hope you enjoy your time in NZ
So there you have it

What are my chances of getting a full scholarship at a decent school? We Answered:
I am not sure. I can only share with you my experience: I graduated 4th in my class, had a 3.9 overall GPA, had a 31 on my ACTs. I was in National Honor Society and Key Club, as well as a couple smaller clubs/activities at school. I taught Sunday school and was active in my church, and I worked around 30 hours a week. My family was fairly poor so I qualified for financial aid. After applying to quite a few schools, I took the best offer- which was a half tuition scholarship at a private college in Ohio. Combined with other scholarships and financial aid, I didn't owe too much. But even with all of my scholarships, I still had to pay.
That was in 1997 and my situation was different than yours, so you may get a lot more than I did. Good luck to you!

could someone tell be about Wellington, please? How is life there? is it safe, nice place to live in?We Answered:
I love Wellington I was bought up there . I have never seen much about Christchurch myself it always seems a rather flat boring place where as Wellington is a lovely city nestled below lots of hills they have some real nice Boutique style shops . Really green and lush areas The botanical gardens near the Uni are so beautiful I would choose Wellington . Mind you the weather can be oh so cold with winds that can cut right through you but Wellington on a lovely day is great. As for safer well unfotunatly these days one always must take precautions any where in the world but like Christ church they are both reasonably safe places.
