Colleges In London

Shelly Said:

Are London Colleges on a Quarterly or Semester system?

We Answered:

When you say 'college' I'm assuming you mean university. 'College' over here is something that kids go to.

For the most part, London universities (as with most universities in the UK) work on a term-based system - the winter term is September to Christmas, the spring term is Christmas to Easter and the summer term is Easter until July. These three terms together make up one academic year.

In terms of your credits, I'm not entirely sure that you would be able to transfer them for the reason that our university system works very differently to yours. We don't go to university, study a variety of subjects and then 'major' and 'minor' in a couple of subjects. Here, when we apply to university we do so to study one subject (sometimes two if it is a joint honours degree) and when we get there that is all we study for the 3 or 4 years. Therefore, if you were to transfer to a university in London you would do so to study one specific subject and your degree in America may not have given you the required level of specialisation in that subject for the credits to be transferred across. I must admit, I've never heard of any American students just transferring over here unless it's been on a study abroad programme.

As for financial aid, you'd have to ask each university individually to see if they offer some sort of private bursary for international students, but there's no set scheme. The reason we get a heavily subsidised university education is that it is paid for out of our taxes and, let's face it, you can't expect the British tax payer to pay for someone who hasn't paid their taxes here!

Norman Said:

cheapest colleges in London for undergraduate studies?

We Answered:

Virtually all unis charge over £3000 for UK students, so as an international student you'll end paying a lot more.

Your country's embassy may be able to help you out with a list of prices, but it's more likely that you'll simply have to research the different universities yourself.

The UCAS website will help you find the unis that offer the courses you want, and the websites of the individual unis will tell you what their fees are.
