Denise Said:

secondary and primary education in Australia?

We Answered:

Overall, our education system is very good, but every city has some schools that have more problems than others. With government schools, the problem schools tend to be found in the lower socio economic areas. I have a high school teacher daughter here in Brisbane and it's something we often talk about. In schools in lower socio economic areas there are more parents who don't care about their children or their education and behaviour and their kids make it difficult for everyone else. Of course, there are many great kids at those schools too, but they're disadvantaged by the large number of uncaring, badly behaved kids. In wealthier areas, the majority of parents care about education and discipline and the less than good kids are in the minority and have little or no influence on the overall tone of the school. Most of the above comments apply more to secondary schools and most primary schools are not too bad.

My daughter has several good friends who are teaching in London and other UK cities and the stories they tell make my hair stand on end. Our worst schools are far better than the best of the schools we've heard about over there. Our teachers seem to receive far more support and are better equipped to handle problems with discipline. In the UK, it seems that in many schools the inmates are in charge of the asylum.

The education system is run on a state by state basis with each state catering for gifted children in its own way, but there are programs in place throughout the country. In my city of Brisbane, there are several primary schools which have a large number of gifted children (Ironside SS is one) and several secondary Schools of Excellence: http://www.ourbrisbane.com/lifestyle/par…

Jamie Said:

i want to do ph.d in education in australia so what is the procedure?

We Answered:

G'day,

The first answerer has answered the job part. Now I will try to assist on the application part...

There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.

There are quite alot of Australian universities offering PhD to international students. It is just the matter of the individual university to find out if there are any suitable supervisors for your area of research. To find out the course that you want to take and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. Depending on your country of origin, you may need to submit IELTS test results for proof of your English proficiency (www.ielts.org)

Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)

Where can I find information on changes to Distance Education in Australia?

We Answered:

Clarification doesn't help.

De is usally by correspondence. Only change is that some delivery can now take place over internet, e.g. some institutions take the face to face lecture sna you can view them online.

Do not know of anyone that is offering online examinations yet.

If you have any specific questions, you are better to ask the specific institution that you are planning on doing the course through as different places have differnent systems, services and resources.
