Hi, I would like to do a home study course but have terrible GCSE results,?

We Answered:

There may be some differences in mature students like yourself, but I know the following:

To do a degree you need to have passed a 'Level 3' course, this can be A Levels, or a vocational course in one particular subject like a National Diploma. With 2 C's at GCSE's I think you may have to do a 'Level 2' course in order to progress to the A Levels, these may be a further 3 GCSE's on top of the 2 you have, or a single course that leads up to the Level 3 course. GCSE's will not take long to get passed anyway...
My father was a mature student with 2 kids who went on to do Law at University and is now a Lawyer of his own firm from being in your exact position but with GCSE's, he did the equivelent of 3 A Levels but they didn't take as long because they were specifically for mature students so they were only a year long, so enquire at your college about it. So your first step would be to do a couple more GCSE's or the equivelent, the may not take long.. Enquire at a college near you, tell them your situation, they will point you in the right direction. Good luck, and be in the right mind frame of working hard and visualising the end result!

Add: Sorry I havn't mentioned anything on the Open University, it is not something I know much about but as far as I am aware you can start their with nothing, if it is spending time with your family etc. you are worried about their are certain courses available at normal unis like part time courses etc.

Try ICS they seem to run masses of home learning courses, just put ICS into your browser

What is the best study at home company?

We Answered:

I use NEC ( National Extension College ) :http://www.nec.ac.uk/info/?usca_p=t , for most of my GCSE subjects ( English Lan and Lit., Physics, Chemistry, etc.). I also expand on it with the Longman IGCSE books:http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_… These books are excellent, and you find you get through the chapters really quickly.

By the way, I am in the UK too, so don't worry about the links being for the USA or anything.
