I Want To Study Abroad

Rachel Said:

I am a second year chemistry student in a University in ireland. I want to study abroad in 3rd year in the US,?

We Answered:

NYC and Boston are two very expensive cities and the colleges are expensive as well. In America, as a college student, you are assigned an adviser. Someone who will help you with the curriculum process and other needs, such as international study. There are specific programs that you need to sign up to be able to be compatible for the program at your current school. If you have an adviser, I would start there and ask him/her to get you started on the application process. You might also contact some universities in America to receive information or go on their websites. Good luck.

Tracy Said:

I want to study abroad. How should I write a letter to family/friends for them to possibly donate money?

We Answered:

How about you go out and earn the money? You'd appreciate the program much more. Then ask for a dollar to dollar match. I think you'll find many more people willing to help you if you are also willing to help yourself.

Stacey Said:

I want to study abroad but I am broke! How can I study abroad in an affordable manner?

We Answered:

Not Australia - there are no scholarships available and you have to prove that you have enough money to support you (at least 12K US) plus the study fees (approx 20K per year) to get in.

All Australian students get an allowance from the government (Austudy) to pay for incidentals etc, so there is no need for scholarships.

Francis Said:

What is a good website to go to if you want to study abroad?

We Answered:

Find your local rotary site. They are a wonderful program to go with, they were the best one i've used. The people you meet are amazing and they do a good job of setting it up so that you change families and settings enough to get a good feel for the life and culture there. They also, unlike some other choices, keep in good touch with you and follow up to see how your doing and if you need anything. They were also the cheapest I found, your cost is really your plane ticket, then they give you a number of things to take, as well as pay you a monthly allowance while you are in your host country.

I want to study abroad for four years?

You don't have to go overseas to study a broad.

I want to study abroad, what are some ways I can cut the expenses drastically?

We Answered:

some have rules about foriegners pay more money... most do especially state funded schools. so you live there for 6 months and sometimes can claim yourself for the local price.

similarly, idk if it would help but you can do all the booking and applying yourself. for exaple some schools have a study abroad program. for instance marist near me I was just looking has study in italy for such and such price. i'm sure they're fair but... you could apply to that school in italy yourself and maybe get in and not have to kick back marist anything.

you could also study at a small cheaper school in any town europe rather than go to some big name place that americans heard of. idk if they have community colleges there. You won't likely find international exchange programs having deals with those schools but if you handle your own affairs, apply to the school, get an apartment nearby and get your own student visa you could save money.

you could also try to work abroad but sometimes its difficult for student visas to get working visas.

studying abroad is really not that expensive depending on the school. state school is only 8k a year or something but private schools are often 25-35k a year which may or may not include room and board. so you pay 30k with a dorm room included then a 1k plane ticket is the least of your expenses. you aren't coming home for christmas but maybe for summer. you don't have to stay all 4 years ;^)

unfortunately the euro is stronger than us so, what seems like 10k to them is 18k to us or something. that hurts but go to asia or south america can maybe get a deal at a community college in bogata or try a college on a small island south of korea, i forget it's name. i considered trying to work there. hei ju island and hei ju university. not sure of the spelling. nice island and is a tourist spot for south koreans. like a colder hawaii. I think parts of the island are rural excepot for the tourists though so it's a small place.
