Paid Medical Studies

Maxine Said:

getting paid for medical studies?

We Answered:

If all the ad said was "something about getting paid if you have endometriosis" where does it mention the clinical study? If all it took to make money was to say "Oh yeah, I've got endometriosis", I'd call the number in a heartbeat. Go ahead and call. It can't hurt to do that.

Oh and I found the ad: Endometriosis do you suffer from endometriosis? endometriosis is a painful...

ENDOMETRIOSIS Do you suffer from Endometriosis? Endometriosis is a painful condition that affects about 10% of women of child-bearing age. If pain from endometriosis disrupts your life, you may be interested in a clinical research study. If you are 18-49 years of age and have regular periods and a medical diagnosis of endometriosis, you may qualify for this research study. See display ad for more info. If you qualify, study related procedures and investigational medication are available at no cost to you, and compensation is available for your time and transportation. ADVANCES IN HEALTH, INC 713-795-5964 clinicaltrials@ advancesinhealthresearch.com

This place is looking for paid volunteers for clinical research. I expect the compensation is modest. This ad also mentions procedures and clinical trials of investigational medications. The ad also says " See display ad for more info". A phone call for info doesn't obligate you. It can be a good idea. Without research and some brave souls, there'd be no progress, no cures, no new treatments. Of course there are risks but if research is in clinical trials, it's relatively safe. And sometimes, clinical trials are the only hope for some.

Where can I find info. on getting paid for medical studies?

We Answered:

Check out local pharmaceutical companies, major universities with a medical school, and military bases with research facilities.

Arnold Said:

How and where can I be paid to be in a medical study?

We Answered:

duke University hospital in NC has studies all the time and they pay you--you will have to stay there and qualify by fitting their study and the psychological tests. Atlanta also does many studies as do most large hospitals with a research center.

Gwendolyn Said:

Is there a tax difference between doing one paid medical trial study and doing two of them?

We Answered:

Your friend is wrong.

Even if you just to the one study, it is taxable. You could do 1, 2 or 10. They are all taxable the same way.
------

I am not sure as to where your friend got the idea that multiple studies would be taxed differently than 1. For example (assuming all other tax items are the same):

Person A: 1 study for $5000
Person B: 2 studies for $2500 each ($5000 total)
Person C: 5 studies for $1000 each ($5000 total)

Each of the above people would pay the exact same tax.

When it comes to income taxes, there is a lot misinformation out there. Much of from "friends". Your best bet is to contact a tax professional in your area and ask.
