Part Time Study

Anita Said:

A question concerning part-time professional study of drama?

We Answered:

No such thing as "Part-Time". The Stars that make it ... unless their Mom is Oprah dedicate FULL TIME mind, heart, body and soul to the craft.

Deniro, Pacino, Joe Pesche, Chaz Palmentiri, Liola, Joe Montagna, you think they were EVER part time actors?

What's the difference between Full-Time and Part-Time Study?

We Answered:

Where I went to school everything above 12 hours on a semester basis, no matter how many classes, was considered full time. Anything less was part time.

Tracey Said:

in the UK if you are in part time study (mature student) can you claim job seekers allowance???

We Answered:

If the course is classified as a part-time one by the educational establishment your friend is at, then he can get Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA). However, in order to satisfy the conditions for receiving JSA, he must be available for, and actively seeking full time work, as well as just part-time. He must agree that if the hours he is at college clash with the hours he is available for work, he must be prepared to either rearrange the college hours, or leave the course, if a job is offered to him, and he cannot rearrange them. He cannot just look for a job that fits in around college (although ideally this is what he would find before he gets an offer of one that clashes!)

In answer to the second part of your question, if you work part time, you can still claim JSA. However, the benefit you receive will be reduced depending on how much you are earning. At present, there are two rates of JSA: £46.85 a week for people aged 18-24, and £59.15 a week for people aged 25 or over. For couples it is £92.80 a week. A JSA claimant is allowed to work for less than 16 hours a week. (up to a maximum of 15 hours and fifty nine minutes: if you hours hit 16 you are not entitled). The first £5 a week that you earn is disregarded; the rest is deducted from your JSA. So. if you work for 8 hours a week, and earn £40, £35 will be taken off your JSA (you keep your entire wage, so if you earn £100 a week, they won't be able to take more than the JSA rate!).
How much you pay for your rent and council tax depends on the income coming into your household. I suggest that you contact your local authority, who will assess how much you should be paying. If you are on a low income, you should be entitled to some help with your Housing Benefit.
I am an adviser in a Jobcentre, so I deal with this sort of question frequently (especially at this time of year!)
I hope everything works out well for you and your friend.

Getting A Visa To Study Part Time In USA, which visa would I need and how will I go about getting it ?

We Answered:

Your plan to study part time in the evenings and work during the day is not feasible.
You cannot be enrolled in a part time program neither under the F-1 visa or the M-1 visa, and you cannot work in the US. The exception is that you can work on campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week after 1 year of studies, if there is any work on campus available.
You need to prove that you are able to support yourself through full-time studies without working for the duration of your education, that means that you cannot base your financing on working.

If you are going to the U.S. primarily for tourism, but want to take a short course of study which is recreational or avocational, and of less than 18 hours per week, you may be able to do soon a visitor visa. If your course of study is 18 hours or more a week, you will need a student visa.
You cannot work at all with a visitors visa.

Should I study full time or part time in uni?

We Answered:

there are pro's and con's for either option which you have probably already weighed up.

i think if you study part time, you've just got to make sure that you lessons don't clash with anything else you want to do.

Lorraine Said:

I want to become a gym Personal Trainer and want to study part time, but which course should I take in London?

We Answered:

Most certified physical trainers are certified in a wide variety of health and exercises areas. Many have two years associate degrees. You cannot just study at home. You need to also have time to work out yourself.

Anyway..........

Do a search on line on "personal training AND certification" and you'll come up with a few thousand hits.

Some of the companies to get your personal training certification from include ACE, ISSA, NFPT, NSCA, AFFA, NCST, NAFC, IFPA, NESTA, etc, etc.

The companies that seem to be the most reputable (and most demanding) are ISSA, NSCA, and ACE because they are recognized worldwide.
