How to Study abroad in Japan?

We Answered:

You'll need a student visa first.

Then you need to apply for a study abroad program with your college.

Also, can you speak Japanese fluently? Speaking Japanese in Japan is pretty essential, unlike Spanish, Italian, French, etc Japanese doesn't use a romanization system for their writing. So, you need to remember at least all 1, 945 jyoyo kanji to get by on a daily, plus the hiragana and katakana charts.

As for living there permanently, it's a must to read/write/speak Japanese fluently. You have to have at least 10 years experience or a 4 year degree. The Japanese can be extremely racist and they will almost always choose a Japanese over a foreigner, so jobs for foreigners are very competitive.
Out of the four months I have lived in Japan, I have only seen 1 non-Japanese person employed in a Japanese company, and he didn't even speak English... just Japanese (probably because he was born in Japan).

What I am trying to say is, don't get your hopes up.

Looking for good Japan Study Abroad Programs.?

We Answered:

Hi, I just recommended to Grace (she also asked about Japan) to check out www.best-student-exchange.com, because there you can find families from Japan (and all over the world) and contact them directly and arrange an exchange with them. Even if it is only for a few weeks to get started, but that way you can improve your language skills and get to know the country better, which in return will help you to decide where you want to go if you return for a one year or longer study and how you want to go about it..

I want to study abroad in Japan but don't know Japanese ?

We Answered:

You'll do fine in Japan just speaking English. I've lived in Japan for two years and I've learned that you dont need to know the language to get around. English is the second language there, signs are in English (in big cities), people know broken-English, they love foreigners, you'll be fine :)

And living there you catch on the language MUCH faster than any text book. go for it. its worth the experience.
