I'm an American planning to study abroad in London, any advice on how to meet people and avoid stereotypes?

We Answered:

Don't even worry about it. You are who you are.

If you are concerned enough in advance to ask this question then you are probably going to do fine.

btw The English love the Yanks even if they don't admit it. WWII still gives you a lot of rope.

The only advice I would give you is that if a Brit criticizes something don't join in. Brits are very self critical but don't like to be criticised. (...I don't mean them personally.....but their country, services, food etc).

PS....also don't use the word "quaint"....to a Brit it sounds a bit like saying "thats quaint compared to how modern we are in America". They don't know that Yanks yearn for the old fashion stuffed.

Have fun.

If I were to study abroad to London, England or Scotland will I be in the same grade?

We Answered:

you will probably go down a few years, my cousin moved to the states and when he was 14 he was in classes with people aged between 16 and 18. so you may be put in classes with people younger than you until you catch up.

How much does it cost to study abroad in London for a semester?

We Answered:

Alot. Central London is very expensive to live in. The majority of students who live in England already can't afford to study in London :(

How can I study abroad in London? HELP!!?

We Answered:

There are study abroad opportunities for high school students. However, they are expensive and I personally wouldn't recommend it. Instead, I would plan to study abroad in college. If you plan ahead there are so many scholarships available to you. You will just need to google these about a year and half before the time you wish to study abroad comes. This will give you plenty of time to fill out all the applications and get ready. Plus, it will be easier to coordinate since most colleges have a study abroad office which will assist you. If you are persistent enough, it is possible you could get a full-ride. You will need all the help you can get with this since studying abroad is a huge experience and theres a ton of little things you don't plan for initially. Check out http://somestudyabroadgirl.blogspot.com for more information on these "little" things I'm talking about.

But don't let the cost overwhelm you. I procrasinated until my senior year of college and it was almost too late for me to go. I didn't realize just how much I would have regretted not entering the program until I signed up.
