Study French In France
Kathy Said:
For those that went to School in France to study French? We Answered:
My program had no such test. It was a Junior year abroad program given by the french department. Everyone in the program had at least a few years of French. If you were very good, you took normal classes with the French Students at the University of Rouen. Of the 19 of us 3 were that good. The rest of us took classes set up for those not yet aclimated to the language. These special classes were set up for the intermediate level student. They were all in French and taught by French Professors.Max Said:
French Citizenship after study in france? We Answered:
My questions are as follows:(1) does the two year residency period include the two years of study? NO
study visa is NON-immigrants - you have to have immigrant status (like PR) to qualify for the 2 years of residency to get citizenship - and your french has to be PERFECT!!!
(2) Are you still able to apply if you lived in france for two years but did a 1 year program at a grande école? NO - 2 years of study means 2 years of study
(3) has anyone here successfully done this? N/A
(4) what work permits if any are available to non-eu residents after study france?
maybe but you have to go home to apply for them
Sylvia Said:
Would I get money to help for my study when I move from US to France? We Answered:
French students get grants (bourses d'études) when they can prove they really need the financial help. Those grants are to help poor people get a higher education, not to give a free ride to those who can afford the expense. Foreign students can get grants from the French government as well, but you need to make your demand one year in advance at the French Embassy, fall into the right category, and your country has to have a reciprocity agreement with France. You probably speak good French if you're coming to France to study, so here is the French site about grants for foreigners:

However, if you are being sent to study French in France it means your parents can afford the expense, in that case you are not eligible.

What's the nicest town in which to study French in the North of France? We Answered:
Lille is a very alive university town with a lot of culture, shows, museum, and a very busy shopping centre. You can get there easily and fast by taking the Eurostar from Ashford or Ebbsfleet in Kent (South East), or Saint Pancras in London, but it is inland and very cold in the winter and can be stuffy in the summer. The Catholic university runs established French courses for foreign adults.ICL-Clarife

On the coast you have the very picturesque town of Boulogne-sur-Mer that has direct sailings to Dover and runs a variety of excellent language courses at its Summer University.

It has a lovely old town with ramparts, a belfry, a castle which shelters an interesting museum. There is the remarkable Nausicaa live marine museum near the harbour and it has a superb sandy beach where you can do various sea linked activities such as wind surfing in the summer. There are coastal walks and the pretty litle resort of Wimereux is a five minutes drive away North. On a clear day you can see the English coast from there.
You can also look at other courses in various regions on the following website:
