Calvin Said:

I cannot decide. Help ! Which hobby, which diploma ?

We Answered:

with a masters and your teaching experience you would not have any difficulty securing a position at a high school. with your experience I would even put out applications to colleges. Unfortunately, starting your own biz, teaching piano, or free lancing journalism, you're still going to be on your own for insurance coverage, disability, etc.....

Most high schools throughout the nation are cutting back on their music programs.. budget cuts. The only place to be assured of an existing music program is at a college. I don't know where you were in OHIO, but the Cincinnati Conservatory for Music is there. Something to ponder. and.. it's right on the UC campus.

Freedom is rarer than security? Are the U.S.A. an exception?

We Answered:

Can you possible explain to me how the United States is more free than Australia? I absolutely doubt it. No offence but your question is just more of the offensive insular arrogant blind rhetoric that is all too common from Americans. What do you actually know about Australia (/the other countries)? And what is your definition of freedom and - think about it - what is mine? In my mind we have more freedom in Australia than in the USA but I'm not so stupid to imagine that you have the same definition of freedom as me.

For example the vast majority of us do not consider the 'freedom to bear arms' a freedom but an oppression. Whereas you obviously have no problem with your law enFORCEment officers pulling guns and handcuffing people at the drop of a hat. Most of us consider publicly funded health care and universities a vital freedom - perhaps you consider the freedom of the wealthy to choose if they want it more important than the lack of freedom of the born poor, who aren't free to make a choice.

What other differences are there? ummm... err.. Get over yourself mate, you're full of more propaganda than the average North Korean.

Is anyone an expert on the regulations regarding Schengen visas?

We Answered:

I'm an American in Europe, with dual Swedish citizenship (received after living in Sweden for several years). When I first came over, I visited Sweden for 90 days without needing a visa. As soon as I returned to the US, I applied for a residency permit (on the grounds of a relationship with a Swede) and was granted one quite quickly. I moved to Sweden before the 6 months was up. There were no problems because I had the legal right to reside in Sweden (which is part of Schengen).

I'm not a Schengen expert, but I believe as long as you have a valid visa, you can return regardless of the normal Schengen rules for tourists. To be certain, I recommend contacting your closest Italian consulate in the US:

Is this a pretty original plot idea? Or is it cliche'?

We Answered:

I think...you need to rethink. I wouldn't be able to say if it's cliche because I haven't read anything like it. But I do feel that the over all plot is...meh. Too many holes.

The state doesn't control the age of voting, the federal government does. so a bunch of little kid petitioning the mayor wouldn't do anything but make a bunch of adults coo at how cute it was they were trying to be grown up.

maybe if you had some kind of national uprising it would work a bit better.

Johnnie Said:

Why didn't Einstein win the 'Nobel' for his theory of Relativity once it was validated?

We Answered:

Einstein's theory of general relativity was confirmed in 1919 by Arthur Eddington (a Brit, not an American, btw) during a solar eclipse.

AFAIK there was only one other observation done at the time, which was inconclusive. As a matter of fact Eddington's observation made headlines all over the world at the time, so General relativity considered pretty solid at the time.

So why did they give the Nobel to Einstein in 1921 for the photoelectric effect, a much less revolutionary discovery ? 2 reasons
1) The Nobel committee has always been cautious about novelties. This was still cutting-edge science at the time and probably nobody on the committee felt they understood it enough to be 100% for it. If the theory turned out to be wrong it would of course have been a major embarrassment.
2) Alfred Nobel's will stipulates that the prizes should be given to discoveries who confer "greatest benefit on mankind". This has led the committee to favor "practical" discoveries over purely abstract ones, and in that respect the photoelectric effect is a better choice.
