Study Medicine In Europe

Lena Said:

Is it a bad idea to study dentistry or medicine in Europe?

We Answered:

It's not that it's a bad idea, but the standards by which they practice on one side of the pond do not necessarily align with the standards on the otherside -- meaning that when it comes time for your boards for licensing, you may find yourself way behind the power curve depending upon where you deside to hang your shingle and open practice. AND, staying in Europe, there are a great many countries whose medicine is socialized and so you would have your pay dictated to you. In a free capitalist based economy, the sky's the limit.

Tracy Said:

Studying Medicine in Europe?

We Answered:

Medicine studies are usually not in English, at least not in continental Europe. Communication with patients is essential for a medicine study and for this reason knowledge of the native language is required. Your only options would be Ireland or the UK, although the UK does not have the same system as continental Europe. So, you've got to make a choice here: either learn a language or study in the US, Ireland or the UK.

Brad Said:

what is the best school to study medicine (M.D.) degree in the U.S. or in europe?

We Answered:

There are many fine medical schools in the US. There's John's Hopkins in Baltimore and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The Ivy League schools, such as U of P (above), Harvard, Yale, Brown, etc., also have excellent medical schools. However, I'm sure that you know, the better the school, the more difficult it is to gain entrance. Good luck in your search. We need the best that we can get in ALL fields.

Melvin Said:

Can anyone tell me where can I study medicine in English in Europe?(except UK)?

We Answered:

Polish Medical Schools
Jagiellonian University Medical School
Karol Marcinkowski Medical School
Medical University of Gdansk
Medical University of Lodz
Medical University of Silesia
Medical University of Warsaw
Pomeranian Medical University
Other European Medical Schools
Charles University Faculty of Medicine
Oradea University School of Medicine
Palacky University Faculty of Medicine
Semmelweis University Med School
St Petersburg State Medical Academy
University of Debrecen Medical School
University of Sibiu Medical School
University of Szeged Medical School
All of these have programs in English, mostly 6 year programs, but you have to live where they don't speak English so that might be a minor problem. In general they can prepare you for the USMLE, check each school for specific requirements and WHERE in the US you can get licensed. Some schools aren't approved in CA, NY or TX (they are the most stringent). There are also Cari bean school specifically dedicated to US and Canadian students if you don't have your heart set on Europe. Check out valuemd.com, they have specific boards for each school and give you more info, in addition to the schools individual website.

Christy Said:

How can you study medicine outside the US, and become a US doctor later on?

We Answered:

Indeed, that's possible. However, I don't think it's a good idea because some courses from other countries don't count in the US. Like me, I studied in the Philippines for a year and when I returned to UCLA, most of the courses I took for a year didn't count. It was a waste of money and time. I study medicine too, and I think US has the best med schools.
