Study Nursing In Australia

Wayne Said:

The cost of studying nursing in Australia / New Zealand?

We Answered:

G'day,

There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.

There are quite alot of Australian universities offering nursing courses to international students that will lead to division 1 nurse registration in the state where you study in. I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au) online databases. The information abt fees & requirements can be found in the university's website. Please make sure that you access the information for internationals students, since some requirements, application form and fees are different than Australians'.

Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. Depending on your country of origin, you may also need to submit an IELTS test results for proof of your English proficiency (www.ielts.org). I know you are Chinese, but from which country since it could be HK, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, PRC or even Mauritius. Usually Singaporeans & Mauritians are not asked for IELTS.

As you have already got a degree, I'm quite certain that you can apply directly for Bachelor of Nursing. At the moment the demands are extremely high for nursing courses and making it hard for students (international & Australians) to enter the course. Quotas are set and already full for 2008 in some universities. There are even some discussions that the IELTS test level will be raised due to the fact that some international student struggled to communicate to patients. However once you have completed your course, it is currently one of the the area where Australia is seeking. It may change when you complete your course in the next 3yrs though.

Living cost... Sydney and Canberra have the highest living cost, followed by Melbourne & Brisbane, then Perth, Darwin, Adelaide & Tasmania the lowest. I am attaching a weblink from one of the uni in Melbourne as an indication.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your study and welcome to Australia :)

Nursing school, going to uni to study being a nurse?? in australia?

We Answered:

G'day,

Math usually leads to logic, tech & sci. So some bits may apply in Nursing (eg. conversion from cc to ml, cm to m etc). However the most important things to be nurse:
1. Are you a people person? If you're not, then definitely not a career to go to. You are going to look after sick ppl, which means that it is an extremely demanding job, even under better circumstances.
2. Are you quick thinking when faced with emergency situation? If you are a panicky person, definitely not suitable.
3. Do you like biology? Can you stand blood?

Hope those points help. Good luck.
