No, no, no, no!!!! Don't listen to these idiots that don't know the first thing about immigration!

If you are a US citizen, you can apply FOR YOUR STUDY PERMIT ON ENTRY!!!!! You can apply right at the airport with an immigration officer.

All you really need is your letter of acceptance, any funding documentation and bank account statements that clearly show your "proof of funds".

For proof of funds, you need to prove that you have either paid the tuition in full already, have the money to pay the tuition, plus $10000 CAD per year of enrollment.

You don't need to fill out the paper application from the CIC website either. Just show up with the documents.

The $10000 per year might be a little scary, but in practice the officer usually just requires that you can prove funding for your first year and they issue you the permit for the entire length of your degree/program.

Try to prove strong ties with your parents and that you want to stay where they are. That way, you can say that if their PR is denied, you will go back to be with them or if all of your PR's are approved, you will be with them in Canada.

They should also be able to provide assistance with locating housing and make suggestions about what to bring with you and what to leave behind or buy when you arrive. Check with the international student office on your new campus.

It could be that the field you wish to study in currently is NOT needed for work positions in Canada. many are refused because the study and the job associated with the study are not relavent to Canada's work force. Are you a college student ? Did you have a letter from parents to the entry officer or are you an adult ?
