What is the procedure for a Indian studying in Canada, to visit America ?

We Answered:

You will need a B2 Visitors Visa. They last for 6 months, so you can travel in and out of the US as much as you want for 6 months from the day you receive your B2 Visitors Visa. You can also apply for extensions, and renew it if you choose to. To get a B2 Visitors Visa, you need to apply for one at the American Embassy or Consulate that is closest to where you are (there's one in every major city). It can be harder to obtain one from within a country you're not a permanent resident of, but it's still possible.

All the information you need for the B2 Visitors Visa can be obtained from the State Department website:

Can somebody tell me how is working and studying in Canada in terms of prices and general atmosphere?

We Answered:

Dear Iranian friend,
I live in Ontario Canada. Studying: there are lots of international students at the major universities here. You would be welcome. Canada is a lot easier to enter than the USA. There should be no problem enrolling in a university or finding other Iranians to help you settle in. (Toronto is the most cosmopolitan city in the world.)

Working: That is more of a problem. There are recurring news stories of immigrants who have good qualifications in other countries, but their qualifications are not recognized here. So you have engineers and doctors working as taxi drivers and janitors. The situation for medical doctors may be getting better because there is a doctor shortage in Ontario so there is pressure on the government to streamline the validation process for foreign medical degrees. If you are in business I don't know how much of a problem that would be. As a businessman you are not required by law to have certain qualifications before someone can hire you (unlike MD, engineers and teachers). I suppose, if you had good experience, that a large company could hire you regardless of whether Canada recognizes your Iranian qualifications. I am afraid that my background is NOT in business, so I don't know much about it.

The issue of work and foreign qualifications is the most important one that you need to look into.

As for which part of Canada to live: Ontario has a good economy and many different cultures. BC is similar, but the climate is warmer. Alberta is very rich because of all the oil. There is great demand for skilled workers there, but the cost of living is higher.

I suggest that you get in contact with some Iranians who live in Canada as well. I could put you in touch with some if you want me to -- just email me. (I don't know any personally, but I have some friends who do).

Charlie Said:

what are the benefit of studying in Canada than usa?

We Answered:

My best friend was an international student from England who came to study in Canada.
I'm Canadian and paid approximately $5400 cdn per year for tuition, while he paid approximately $9400 cdn per year. Overall, when you compare these prices to any US college you will see you will be paying a LOT less for school in Canada!

As I'm canadian, I'm likely to tell you that the people here are GREAT ... and generally, campuses are much smaller and intimate. You really get to know profs and people who work around the school.

Otherwise, what you should really be thinking about is WHAT you're studying! There are some great schools in Canada AND the US that focus on different areas. For instance, I attended an agricultural college in Ontario, Canada - and if you're into this I would say you'd be hard pressed to find a better school than mine!
So do some research into the specific programs offered at universities and where the best reputations lie.

Oh, and I almost forgot - if you DO decide on Canada - be prepared to be COLD for months on end! hahah.
