What does the book "The China Study" say about Fish?

We Answered:

The chart lists specific fruits, vegetables, legumes, mushrooms, nuts, and whole grains. It advises minimizing refined carbohydrates, added vegetable oil, and fish and avoiding meat, poultry, dairy, and eggs.

Do Children In China Study Hard?

We Answered:

It depends upon the student and it depends upon their motivation. My two children study very hard every night . . . doing massive amounts of homework. They are in second and fourth grades and they typically have a minimum of two hours of homework each night.

Students take summer courses for a variety of reasons. If the main reason is because the parents are working and need somewhere for the kids to be throughout the day, then their motivation is low and they are not likely to study hard.

If you are going as an oral English teacher (as opposed to reading, writing or even comprehensive English), you are not likely to find a lot of studious people in your class. Until spoken English is a part of the national examination system, few people find the value of putting a lot of energy into it.

If your students are preparing for their college entrance tests (sophomore or juniors), then they may be more motivated.

If you are an experienced teacher with good classroom management skills (classes can have up to 80 students or more!), then you will have more success. But once again, in a class that size, you are very likely to have both bad and good students.

If you are an inexperienced teacher, then you might be in for a challenging time!

Last of all, I recommend not coming over here with an attitude of "I am the expert . . . I'm going to show them how it's done." The more cocky one is, the more problems one has. While your students are students, they definitely know more about the system than you do.

While teachers are very respected here in China, it doesn't take students long to find out what they can and can't get away with.

Eric Said:

Have any of you ever read the book 'The China Study'?

We Answered:

I thought it had some interesting points, however, as is the case in most research there was certainly researcher bias at work - they have an agenda...

Doesn't diminish the work as long as you are mindful of it.

For those who have read THE CHINA STUDY...?

We Answered:

I didn't change my diet after perusing it since I'd already been a long term veghead when it was released.

What makes it so valuable is that is *has* withstood not only the initial independent peer review but dozens of attacks by the anti-veg crowd! That's also why you don't hear too much about it from the meaties, the LAST thing they want is for the general population to read and understand what is in the study, since it totally trashes all their anti-veg 'research' that can't withstand independent peer-review.

By the way, you aren't linking to the actual study, just the book aimed at 'normal' folks<g> and your link is broken (you lost the m in com). The major problem with that book is that it tends to gloss over the limitations that were addressed in the real science (not unusual when dumbing down the science). Here's a few links that may be more useful:

Does anyone have any first hand experience with 'The China Study'?

We Answered:

Yes! and if you're not already vegan this book will save your life! It is great! I was already a vegan when I read it but the book just confirmed so many reasons why I'm vegan! I can honestly say that The China Study was the first book I ever read from cover to cover. If you go to amazon.com and search for The China Study it will show you other reader reviews and their reviews were what sold me on it. You should really read couple of them! I highly highly highly suggest this book and after you read it you will want everyone in your life that you care about to read the book as well because the findings are astonishing! You will not be let down with the book!

'The China Study'?

We Answered:

Hehehe. YES! I love that book, want everyone to read that book, and it absolutely changed my life.

The author is well-respected in the field of research. He headed up a lot of the studies that meat-eaters use to try and disprove vegetarianism as being helathy. The only problem is, more research has been done that makes the old research obsolete! How people can trust early research and then ignore further research by the same people is beyond me.

There are two groups that I know of that refute Dr. Campbell's work. One is Chris Masterjohn, who I believe is some kid in his 20's with no background in nutrition or research and I think the other is the Weston Price Foundation.

The China Study (book) is a thorn in the meat and dairy industries' side because Dr. Campbell is so well-regarded as an honest and accomplished researcher and his testing methods are pretty cut and dry. The results of his research are downright scandalous and this book IS reaching a more mainstream audience. I know quite a few non-veg people who have heard of it/read it and they were blown away.

EVERYONE should read the book. It not only goes into the China Study, which is the biggest study on nutrition every done that just so happens to provide a whole lot of evidence that the more animal products you eat the more your chance of getting "western diseases" goes up, but it also goes into a lot more information about how research works and how animal products really may be the root of our most "popular" diseases, no matter how much people may want to believe otherwise.

I have a friend who was, until very recently, on the board of directors for a famous cancer research hospitals/universities in the U.S. He loves the book, too, and is a strict vegetarian because of the research done at his university and the research detailed in The China Study.

But, some people don't want to believe the evidence in front of them no matter what. Ignorance is bliss if it means they can still eat burgers with extra cheese.

Discuss It!
