Don't leave work until the last minute and it won't pile up.
If you're given a month for an assignment, start the week the assignment was given to you and work continuously throughout the month. Be careful not to work too quickly though; remember, you were given a month for a reason. As far as studying for exams, be sure to pay attention in class and ask questions. Participation is one of the best ways to remember material. On your own at home, you can give your notes from that day to a willing family member and ask them to quiz you on the material from that day and ask maybe five random questions from material up until that point. This will keep you up to date with the material and ensure that you don't forget things from previous classes. Hope these tips from a fellow high school student help!

Take notes daily in class.
Then at home read those notes and add to them from your reading of the text. Make sure to complete and turn in all assignments.
While reading the text, make sure you write all words/terms from text that are 'bold print'.
Answer every question you can in the chapter (that's where test questions come from)

Reveiw every subject daily, for at least 15-30 minutes. Change subjects every 30 minutes and rotate until your 'homework' is done, and you have reviewed all your class notes.

This keeps you up in each class, without 'cramming' (which does not work well).

Work backwards with a calendar and schedule portions of large assignments out over allowed time.

Reward yourself with daily treat for doing well. Bigger 'rewards' such as a movie on weekends.

Most high schools don't really look at your grades in order to get in. Unless a private school is where your heading. But at my middle school you have to pass your end of the year tests to be able to pass the 8th grade. If you don't pass you can't go to highschool. But that's my school.

Just stay organized. I know i know, it sounds like I'm an adult, but seriously. If you organize your time so you can do all your homework, and not get stressed about it, then you will perform better in school. Pay attention in class and make sure you know everything your teachers tell you. Study if you have to, but don't cram. Also, dont cheat or slack off.
