Getting Good Grades
Cory Said:
Does getting good grades make you a better person? We Answered:
you can obviously see it doesn't make them a better person with the way they treat ppl. Yes I've know a few of them, pretty much just ignored them. They may be smarter/ better at memorizing But it doesn't make them mother t or the pope.Evelyn Said:
How important are good grades for getting into a good college? We Answered:
It's all a bit of a balance. If your GPA is a bit low for that particular school, but something else about your application is outstanding, they may admit you. And it really does have to do with the entire package. Still, it won't do you justice if you have a 2.7 GPA, so-so SATs, regular extracurriculars, and are applying to Harvard. But you could have a GPA a bit lower than Harvard's average if, say, you're also an elite level competitive figure skater, or you work full time in your family's business, and etc.It is a balance, but some schools weigh certain elements of the application more heavily than others. For example, some schools don't look at SAT scores at all. And in most cases, if your overall GPA is a bit low for the school, but your last two years in high school showed very good grades, you may well get in based on those last two years.

Do students learn less when they focus on getting good grades? We Answered:
it is true but not always .. some focus on their grades to see if they do better .. and others ask about their grades to see if they are at least passing minimumArlene Said:
Is there a certain trick to getting good grades? We Answered:
Well, I'm a straight A student; number one in an official ranking of the entire class in fact (out of the 157 total in my grade level ranked). Unlike most of my fellow classmates, I spend extensive time studying. If I don't understand a concept, I will read through our textbook about it until I'm comfortable on the subject (even if it takes a some time). I also be sure to complete the entire homework assignment before it's due, even if I'm foggy on one of the questions. You can't earn any credit for not even trying! In addition, I stay very organized. I have a designated folder, binder, and notebook for each core subject, as well as one additional folder for all homework papers I am to complete by the next day. For each unit, I keep all the papers that I am handed back that in subject's folder. After the end of a unit, I take a few minutes at home to move the papers from that unit into that subject's binder, where they remain for the year. None of my papers are kept folded inside a textbook.
I don't think there is any real trick to earning excellent grades. Just study hard, do your homework, stay organized, and the rest should take care of itself.
