Good Study Habits For College Students

Carla Said:

cellphones affects the study habits of students?

We Answered:

Q1: It does effect the study habits, because it causes a distraction. They Will be focused more on who is calling or texting them, rather than their study materials.

Q2: Well if it is a case where they are in a very quiet place, the celluar phone could cause other people to get distracted from their work.

Q3: They will be too busy talking or texting to worry about appointments or other important things. It raises the probability of forgeting something.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Good Job for college students?

We Answered:

I'm in a community college too and living on campus. You should go to your financial aid office and see about campus jobs, they're good only working you part time and giving you a little extra cash. Usually you will get something like janitorial work or library assistant and can do some studying in your free time and get paid for it!!

What can colleges do better to assist nontraditional college students?

We Answered:

Yeah, I am a non-traditional student at SCSU in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. My college has been fantastic in providing me with almost constant encouragement on finding jobs that pertain to my major which I can enter into now for additional income and on the job training. They have provided me with all of the financial aid awareness that they could- even clued me in on scholarships geared to non- traditional students. Gave me a list of possible graduate schools to attend and what routes to finish in a timely manner. My college has done it right. They even have you take Science, English, Math, and History placement tests so that you don't take a course and find you need a refresher course... so you don't waste money in course which you will potentiall fail. I think its my state. Minnesota really places a high emphasis on education. If I were you, I'd go to a different college, one that believes in me!

I need some good studying habits?

We Answered:

Hey I've definitely been there. I don't know about you, but I am very welcoming to distractions - If a buddy asks me to go grab dinner, I don't think twice about it. If there's a show on tv that I like, I'll go watch it - ANYTHING to avoid my work. The worst thing of all was most definitely the COMPUTER. I can sit on it for HOURS on end wasting time...The only semester I did well in college was the semester I did not have a computer. Sad. I KNOW i'm not the only one that had this problem. If you can sit here typing on yahoo answers on a Sunday night about how you are procrastinating on your work...you should try pulling your power cord for your computer and giving it to a friend across campus for a few months. If you have to write papers, just disconnect your internet cable or turn off your wireless.

Ahhh all I can say is GOOD LUCK!

A good Self Help Book or program For College Students?

We Answered:

There IS a book that can help you! It's called "Becoming a Master Student" by Dave Ellis. It covers all the bases to help you adjust to student life: time management, scheduling, effective study skills and TEST PREP, and lots, lots more!

This book really helped me get it together when I got to college. Tons of useful info, plus it's clear, concise and easy to read.

Check it out. Most college libraries should have it, or you can get it through the InterLibrary Loan program. I ended up buying a copy to keep for reference.

Don't give up! You can do this!

How to get better study habits.?

We Answered:

I'm a HUGE fan of notecards. Anytime you have definitions you can use this method and it really does help. One of the great things about this is that you can study anywhere. If you are watching tv, you can flip through them during a commercial. If you are on the bus, you can flip through them there. In college, I used to study while walking on the treadmill and riding a stationary bike. It was versatile and effective.

Try to set up a reward system for your studying, so it doesn't get overbearing and become misery. I used to tell myself that if I studied for a 1/2 hour (or whatever) I could watch 10 minutes of trash tv or eat ice cream while lounging on the sofa. If I studied all morning, I would give myself a little trip to the mall. Just something to break up the monotony and make studying a little more fun.

Discuss It!
