Can anyone recommend a home study (easy) maths courses?

We Answered:

I recommend that you don't use any home study distance learning provider and here's why:

Last year I did a Maths and English GCSE via a local Adult Learning Centre, (run by Local Authorities - County or District Councils). It meant going to an evening class twice a week, but it was worth it. Each course cost less than £200 and the Adult Learning centre also registered me for exams (included in the cost) and held the examinations themselves, so I didn't have to worry about organising this for myself. Local Authority Adult Learning Centres also do GCSE preparation courses, and you may be able to do these and the following GCSE for free if you currently have less than 5 GCSE's. You can usually find information on these courses in local libraries.

Before doing this I looked into home and distance learning courses for the GCSE's, and unfortunately I could not find any good value ones, or any that I could trust. 99% of the GCSE distance learning courses in the UK are no good and I couldn't find the 1% that are good - I'm not sure they exist.

You may not get much support from these distance learning organisations and the material they send is no different to a book you can buy in the shops for less than £20.

The worst thing about them is that none of them are registered exam centres and will tell you in the small print that you should find your own exam centre and register with it. This is virtually impossible to do because most exam centres will only register and enter people for exams if they are doing the course with them. Because of this, no GCSE distance learning provider is obliged to make sure you complete the course, and there are no statistics to show just how many people do actually get to exam stage with their courses, let alone whether they pass them or not. With these distance learning providers the situation is that if you can't find an exam centre, it's your problem.

The GCSE distance learning providers also charge between £300 and £600 for their courses, two or three times more than most local authorities.

The only downside to using the local authority adult learning centres is that they don't have a very big range of GCSE's and usually only provide Maths and English. But if this is what you want, then I would recommend this route rather than the distance learning.

The Open University is a good source of distance learning, but they only do university level courses, not GCSE or A Level. I wish they did do GCSE and A Level courses, because they would clean up - everybody would use them.

Hope this helps.

Home study coures in the uk?

We Answered:

With your poor spelling, lack of capital letters and missing punctuation I think you will have a tough time getting work as a Teaching Assistant even after a home study course.

Do a remedial literacy course first and then see how things stand.

Check this site http://www.alw.org.uk/get-involved/learn… The stuff here is all free. They even offer help with childcare. Good luck to you.
