How To Study For The Act

Kyle Said:

What is a good school to study acting?

We Answered:

Probably the best school you could go to is The American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
It's a $30,000 tuition per year, and you must be asked back for the 2nd year.

Check it out and see if it's right for you.
Remember, it's very hard to get into.

Edit: To the answerer above me, I worked with John Robert Powers for 2 years, spent thousands of dollars more than I made and only got 2 auditions by them. They're more of a scam group than a proper agency. Waste of my time and money.

Look into background acting around your city. There are plenty of opportunities with that, not to mention you meet people (who you know and your timing is key - it doesn't always have everything to do with talent) and it provides a great experience being around set and how movies really work.

How can i start learning to act?

We Answered:

You don't have to go to school in order to act, just like you don't have to go to cooking class in order to cook.
The longer you keep at it, the easier it gets, the more it becomes a part of your lifestyle and you see it in everything.

To start you can do a few simple things:
. Dress up as a certain character for a fancy dress party.
. Audition for an Amateur show within your local community.
. Put a video together for Youtube.
. Do a speech at an 18th or 21st.
. Read a play and then read it out loud with a group of people.
. Join a drama or improv group.

There are heaps of simple ways that you can get started and get the zest of what the fun side of it is like.
Once you get more experience, then you can start thinking the right and wrong way of going about things. But when you begin, it's all for fun.

DraMuse, because you need it :)

ACT study tips pleaseee?

We Answered:

I didn't study for my ACT test and i scored a 28. I would recommend just doing the official ACT test prep test using the time limits. They have some at the ACT website I believe. If you score bad, you can retake it without penalty.
I wouldn't worry to much about the ACT as long as you score high enough to get accepted to the college of your choice. The test is a poor measurement of intelligence and college readiness.

Gabriel Said:

How much should I sell my SAT study book and ACT study book for?

We Answered:

We buy the Official SAT Study Guide (2nd edition) and the Real ACT Prep Guide all the time for the students we tutor. If we buy them brand new from Amazon, we pay around $12 - $15 a piece. How many practice tests did you do in your books? If your books are still in good condition, I'd pay around $8 - $10 for them.

Good luck. Hope this helps!

Can you study Theatre and Nursing at the same time?

We Answered:

By third year, the nursing program is very demanding in clinical hours, and the same is true for acting. Most nursing curricula are set, meaning you can't go "part time" unless you attend a community college that offers part-time programs. You can't "minor" in nursing but possibly you can in theater.

John Said:

How do you study for SAT and ACT? study tips? Which is harder?

We Answered:

With regards to the ACT, your best bet would be to first take the free OFFICIAL practice test up on the act company's website (see sources below for link). The only real way to know what you need to focus on is to start with a real test. After that it is really up to you to concentrate on the areas you need to build up.

There are many products out there that can help you including the "Real ACT" book from the company. Problem is that the book doesn't include sneaky strategies. We have a good blog post of some of the best products that you might want to check out (see link below).
