Mcat Study Guide

Zachary Said:

What is the best mcat study guide?

We Answered:

Berkeley Review and ExamKrackers are good study guides.

Berkeley Review is very indepth and detailed. Chemistry review book is two books each 300 pages. They cover everything that could possibly be tested.

ExamKrackers are a shorter review however they also cover the material and it is a brand that people like to study.

This answer does a really great job of explaining the best books per section of the test. Companies have produced books for every section however each company has somehow figured an expertise in a section.

Berkeley Review is really good for chemistry and physics

ExamKrackers has a really great Biology review book. A lot of people have good things to say about the ExamKrackers review book.

Princeton Review has a really good Organic Chemistry section however their book is all one entire comprehensive review.

I would recommend you also looking at these books at a bookstore or from a friend to see which style of book you are comfortable.

The Princeton Review asks individual multiple choice question (one or two or three) after each section of learned material within a chapter.

The Kaplan review book comprehensive does not have questions after each section. Instead they have passages.

So make sure you look at the books for your own opinion. However I really liked the ExamKrackers and Berkeley Review.

You could also ExamKrackers from a public library or from torrents or file sharing if you are short on cash.

Also the 1001 Series by ExamKrackers is a good practice of MCAT Style questions without passages. If you get the ExamKrackers books these 1001 question books correspond with the books and this extra practice really helps you get accustomed to approaching problems.

They are non-passage based questions so don't just use the 1001 series books.

I also recommend

www.e-mcat.com and purchasing some AAMC official practice exams.

Also I recommend at least 10 full length practice mock tests before taking the real test to help get conditioned for the speed of the test and its length which is 5+ hours sitting at a computer.

Kaplan and Princeton Review along with other companies publish full length exams that are computerized.

If you can't study by yourself I might consider looking at a review course however the review course serves only to provide you with a schedule and you must do all the required work.

Kaplan has a good review course.

What are the best MCAT study guides or tools?

We Answered:

I took a kaplan class and had the examkrakers.

What I liked about Kaplan was the amount of practice tests. I think that is the #1 most important thing about taking the mcat. It challenges you to think in a way that you may not have before and understand things a lot more. You need to know the material of course, but taking those practice exams and learning how to think fast enough to get through the section is key, IMO.

What I liked about examkrakers was the explanations, I thought it was much better than Kaplans and more fun.

I liked the outcome last time I took it. I took it 2x and the change was taking the practice tests. Good luck!

What is the best study guide and study schedule for the new MCAT?

kaplan

Karen Said:

Can I use MCAT study resources to study for the Optometry Admissions Test (OAT)?

We Answered:

i tried using MCAT material for the OAT and it was too much unneeded info...OAT was more like memorizing definitions and concepts....it's great if you can retain all the info learned from studying MCAT material but it's way more than needed....the OAT is more general than the MCAT
the general info from kaplan or princeton review MCAT books that go over each subject are good to review/know, but the practice questions were not useful because it was nothing like how the OAT was formatted...I always thought the OAT was more like an SAT or ACT exam

Michele Said:

what is some good MCAT study guides, i am leaning toward the princeton review, anybody use that one?

We Answered:

I ended up using exam krackers which was recommended to me by a friend who had taken the princeton review course. He said PR tries to cover all possible senarios in great detail while EK hits exactly what youll need to know. Theyll always be stuff way out of left field on the test, but I felt I used my time & energy most wisely with EK

MCAT study guide??

We Answered:

At what point in your undergraduate education are you?

If you are just starting, the 2003 edition is just fine.

If you are soon to be taking the MCAT, you need to actually enroll in the Kaplan or Princeton Review course. I agree with the other answerer that this is the most important single examination you will ever face - don't harm your chances by skimping on the course fees at this time.
