What's Best for a media studies GCSE coursework ?We Answered:
I work in the media, and I have to say that you can probably express yourself more using a CD cover - you have no real limits other than the size of the cover. A website is limited by your ability to develop it, and a magazine article would be limited by whatever constraints imposed by the magazine (such as use of language and style). With the CD cover you can do anything - but remember whatever you do make it memorable. Very good luck.Danielle Said:
Will taking GCSE Media Studies stop me getting to a good university? We Answered:
GCSE's really don't matter to universities. I wouldn't take it @ A level, but @ GCSE you will be fine.Lawrence Said:

What does GCSE media studies entail? We Answered:
Hi, I'm in year 10 and I was forced to do media studies, and it's not that bad, to be honest. Look:PROS: The exam itself consists of you having to watch a clip of a sci-fi film (2006-07 only) over and over and you have to answer questions on the camera angles, technical codes, language codes, connotations etc. But these are really easy to learn.
The coursework so far for me consisted of creating and analysing a homemade magazine cover, and creating and analysing a homemade CD album cover. These were both really fun to do because you can make it all fancy but within reason! Also, media is all about presentation so you use a lot of computers for images and very little text.
CONS: The deadlines are extremely tight. Since I only started doing my media course in November, I'm doing two pieces of coursework at the same time!
It can get boring after a while, if you have a boring teacher. You're supposed to be able to watch movie clips alot, so if you do opt for media, ask your teacher about this to spice up the lesson a bit.
Do not expect it to be easy - it gets boringly tough, especially the coursework. The mark scheme is very strict and so you have to make sure you cover every aspect of your work.
Overall, I'm enjoying it so far, and the exam seems pretty easy. All you need to have is a good memory and a good understanding of the telly (which, I'm pretty sure, we all have). But if it's an option for you, don't bother if you don't want a job IN the media (journalist, script writer/editor, director, etc.).
Hope this helps.
PS: Don't pick French! I have, and I deeply regret it!! There's too many verbs!! :(
