I really want to try and study psychology & philosophy at Oxford, am i doing the right thing?

We Answered:

Hi lydlyd,

My personal advice to you is unless your planning to get at least your masters degree in psychology then you are much better off not doing psychology. Philosophy is a fairly worthless degree, even at the PhD, level and I would steer you away from it.

Reading your selection for A-Levels you have a good choice for Oxford but I would challenge you to take more than 3 A-Levels, maybe 4 -5. The key for you is not so much your course selection but your grades as Oxford, if I understand the media reports correctly, may raise the minimum entrance requirements to 2 - A* for A-levels. So, I would be more concerned about the grades, not selections. Finally if I were in your situation the three A-levels I would consider would maths, physics, and English.
