Reading Tips For Students

Jacob Said:

I will be going into highschool next year. Tips? read for more?

We Answered:

Well, I was just as worried as you were, and I am a freshman this year. It was hard for the first week getting to your classes on time and stuff, but you will get so used to the school and then it is so easy...actually a lot of fun. Just do your homework, be outgoing so you make a lot of friends, join a lot of clubs, and don't stress :)

Tips from students who have read Shakespeare?

We Answered:

Just read the Shakespeare and you will hopefully understand it, i don't have a clue what some words mean, just skip them. If you've got an exam or something on a particular shakespeare piece, just look up a simple version on the internet of the story your doing.

tips for students that finish assignments quickly in class?

We Answered:

Don't listen to california gal. They will resent it or just tell the struggling person all the answers. Or they will goof off.

What grade and subject do you teach?
At elem level, little logic and mind bender games tend to work.
At secondary, not so much (they like checkers and chess, but that becomes loud). I teach 8th grade english, so every time a kid is done they have 3 choices: read, study for vocab, write in journal.

Since we have a weekly vocab quiz, they always can study it. I would suggest looking at what you do in your class. Is there something you can add? Can you force them to do homework corrections? Make up missing work? barnes and Nobel usually has mind puzzle books on sale and those could be good.

tips for helping students with reading?

We Answered:

Try to find a subject that they like, and give them a simple book about that subject, and very slowly make the books harder, in length and grammar. Record the changes, like make a test in the beginning of the year, and the end too.

Hi, how can I motivate my students to read? Any tips for "fast" reading with comprenhension?

We Answered:

Not sure what exactly you are asking? Are you asking how to get children to read FASTER and still comprehend the information? If you ARE asking this...Here is a tip. Try finding a sentence out of a book, any sentence and have a stop watch in hand. Have the children read the sentence and pick a certain time you want them to finish it. For example, you might pick 5 seconds for the children to read the sentence. Then say stop and have them turn over thier books. Ask the children who can tell you what the sentence meant. Make sure EVERYONE who can tell you raises thier hand and then pick the first person in the first roow to tell you. They then get a point... continue this trend and Play a game...
