I am a teacher (20 years). I do not mean this as a negative answer to your question. You seem to be more concerned about salary. Teaching is one of the most stressful jobs. Most teachers quit after 5 years. Social Work is stressful too. Some kid in one of your cases gets killed or abused you are the focus of an investigation. Go to a school and spend one whole week, not one day, with a teacher and see what it is like. Ask a Social Worker to allow you to spend a whole week with him/her on the job.

A Social Worker has either a BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) and/or an MSW (Master of Social Work). A DSW (Doctor of Social Work) is also available. The minimum is a Bachelor's Degree, but many social work jobs require at least a Master's. Other majors can possibly get you into the social service field, but if the job specifically calls for a social worker, you will need the applicable degree.
