Student Study Skills

Ramona Said:

What is the best study method for university student ?

We Answered:

To concentrate on the studies in the class itself, by keeping on asking the master to give you an example whenever you don't understaqnd something..

When you reach back home, just revise the notes that you0 have taken down , as it is said that 'if you don't read the portion of the lecture given to you on a day within 24 hours, then that information will never remain in your mind' - Remember witin 24 hours..

Peter Said:

i'm a college student and want bettter study skills?

We Answered:

Alright, well one of the hardest things will be learning how to manage your time wisely. As you might have heard from all of your teachers since grade school, time management is critical in being a better student. Schedule your time and know when and where you can work. Also, try to remove all distractions from your work area. Work in areas like a library or a quiet room to focus. You have to remember that the biggest part of this is your will. You have to actually want to become better and you have to stick to it. Otherwise, no matter how much advice people give you, you'll end up blowing it away. Remember to look through your notes everyday and try to preview future class topics. Doing homework is absolutely critical. There's no point in taking a class if you ignore the homework. Don't expect points for doing homework. You should know by now that homework is to help you, not the teacher. Don't listen to music while doing homework. No matter what anyone else tells you, trust me...it's just another distraction. Although this may be hard, try to avoid the computer if it's possible. The computer is the biggest distraction out there. Good luck

I've always been a good student, but never learned good note taking/study skills? What can I do?

We Answered:

I hate taking notes, too. One thing that helped me was buying a voice recorder. It's generally inexpensive and it let me hear the lecture as many times as I wanted, thus allowing me to take notes at my own pace.

Deborah Said:

What study skills would you recommend to be a successful student?

We Answered:

If you want to get straight A's throughout college, I would recommend you master your technology.

MS Office, a statistical analysis program like SPSS or SAS, some database experience with Access or SQL... learn this stuff and you'll be able to do things that will wow your instructors. I teach political science, and I've found a direct correlation between those kids that just trod along in my class, and those students I perceive to be striving for success. Other than people hoping to get a Political Science degree, computer science students and applied math majors do the best in my classes. It is all because of the quality of the work they generate with the programs indicated.

Other than that, learn to take effective notes on your reading. Get in the habit of writing in the margins or taking notes as you read. Then, learn to rewrite and condense them. If you do that, it will make studying for tests much easier and more efficient.
