Try Rotary Youth Exchange! It is one of the most reasonably cost programs, and it also includes a few organized activities throughout your year. Also YFU, and AFS

To Study Abroad in China should I go through an org?

We Answered:

Hi Bob,

first, to be clear, I want you to know that I do work for an education company based in Beijing: chinastudyabroad.org, but I will try best to be unbiased in my answer because I am first and foremost a young American living in China.

Anyway, I studied in Beijing before at BLCU, and I thought it was a pretty good experience, but I spent a lot more time socializing and hanging out with other foreigners than I spent learning Chinese. I had a few friends that studied at the BMA, and they said that it was really an intense class because of the small class sizes.

To be completely honest, I spend a lot of time speaking English here in Beijing because most of my friends are foreigners as well. I don't really have to use chinese as often as I thought I would, and because there's a large tourist industry a lot of Chinese people speak English.

If you are absolutely set on total language immersion, I suggest studying in other cities like Kunming or Dalian because you're FORCED to speak Chinese. Otherwise, you might not even get to eat dinner until you figure it out.

However, I must say, studying abroad in Beijing was A LOT OF FUN!

Good luck Bob.

Where can I find a summer study abroad program in China?

We Answered:

Hi there,

I have found a couple of interesting programmes that you might want to have a look into. Of course, Languages Abroad offers one, which can be found at http://www.languagesabroad.com/countries… - it costs around $2000.

Then I have found this offer, which I can't recommend, since there isn't enough information, but I wanted to list it anyway: http://www.studyabroad.com/programs/summ…

I don't know about your language level, so I can't decide if this programme for intermediate/advanced students of Mandarin is suitable, but it sounds very good: http://www.ciee.org/program_search/progr…
It doesn't say anything about the fees yet, though... but have a look.

Then I have found this one, also in Beijing: http://www.globalsemesters.com/Summer-Be…
They, too, haven't announced their fees yet, plus the fees will not include airfare, food and travelling around. I like it, though, because it combines the language course with an English-language business class.

Global Semesters also offers other programmes, including programmes without the business part, and including cultural aspects. All of their China programmes for summer 2009 can be found here: http://www.globalsemesters.com/China.htm…

CIS also haven't announced their fees yet, but promise to do so soon. Their programme (which includes language classes, business classes and cultural immersion) can be found at http://www.studyabroad-cis.com/index.php…

You might also want to take a look at this programme, offered by World Link Education. It isn't too expensive (fees depend on length of stay), and can be varied according to your interests: http://www.worldlinkedu.com/chinese_lang…

Well, I hope this helps for a bit!

In my application essays for a study abroad program in China, should I not mention my faith?

We Answered:

You'll be arrested and not allowed to post questions like this on Yahoo. My sage advice is give up the idea. You see it as an act of goodness while the Chinese view it as an act of disruptive aggression. If Muslims began proselytizing in your neighborhood and loudly making calls to prayer over loudspeakers, I hardly doubt you'd call the law.

Think very hard about this. The Chinese are going through some religious problems with the Uighers and Hans in Xinhua right now. Do you wish to vanish in a prison on some remote mountain?

How can I study abroad in china 2011?

Check with your school, I'm sure they have lots of oppurtunity's. Also try fundraisning, I know kids who have raised $10,000 from just doing fundraising such as Selling Things, car washes, garage sale and more.

I plan to study abroad in China and was wondering what places are legal to post ads for tutoring English?

We Answered:

AFAIK Chinese newspapers do not have a classifieds section, and placing an ad wouldn't be cost-effective. You could ask to put your ad in other places but only a few places I know of would have a public bulliten board. Most ads will get taken down.

Your best bet is to apply for jobs you see in online classifieds, for example www.thebeijinger.com and www.laonei.com.

http://forum.e-admission.cn/ This is a study abroad foreign, you can ask any question about living or studying in China there.

Discuss It!
