Study Abroad Summer 2010
Caroline Said:
Best options for studying abroad in Spain for Summer 2010?We Answered:
By far the easiest route is by asking your College or University if they already have overseas affiliations with other Colleges, or even if they work closely with other local colleges that may have. If you are lucky enough to to find that this is the case then the process is reasonably simple - I have attached a link that will tell you some more - http://www.tumbit.com/how-to-guides/arti…Angela Said:
Studying Abroad Spring or Summer 2010, where should I go?We Answered:
As far as having life's luxuries, Europe is right up there with the U.S. so I wouldn't worry too much about hygiene - it wouldn't get much better in any other parts of the world. All of the places you listed sound great - I would especially recommend Rome or Greece because of the rich ancient history.Jill Said:
High School Study Abroad Summer Programs 2010?We Answered:
If I may, I would suggest Youth For Understanding (YFU). I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer (in the truest sense - I receive no financial compensation) with YFU. When I have asked exchange students why they chose YFU, they basically said that YFU gave them more bang for their buck. 95% of the fees collected by YFU go for direct program costs - finding a host family, transportation to and from the hosting country, support while in the hosting country, etc.YFU has summer programs to two dozen countries. Many of these do not require any previous language study. I would suggest picking a country (or a few) that you would like to visit and then check out yfu-usa.org. You can check on costs, age requirements, language requirements, program details (what you'll do while there), contact information for former exchange students (and their parents), scholarship opportunities, etc.
Whatever you do, please choose a program that is listed with the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They audit the programs for quality.
I would love to write more, but I don't know what specifics you would like. Feel free to email me.
Good luck!

im planning on traveing to amman (jordan) summer 2010 for study abroad any suggestions? We Answered:
Bring a 100 or 200 no more. when that money is finished try the atms.places u should go to:
- Petra
- Dead Sea
- Wadi Rum
- Jaresh (Roman ruins)
- Ajloun (Ajloun Castle)
- Karek (Karek Castle)
- Downtown Amman (the Roman theater)
- Madaba (which includes Mount Nebo and the Madaba Mosaic)
- Um Qais (Far north, u can see Syria and Palestine (Israel) from there)
I have been to all of them except Wadi Rum.
If u like ruins then ur top 5 are: Petra, Jaresh and Ajloun (can be visited in the same day), Karek, Downtown Amman, and Madaba.
Wadi Rum is just a desert be people say it is awesome, go to the Dead sea after u finish ur visit to Mount Nebo (1/2 hour down hill drive from it)
Be sure to be with a friend at all times (preferably Jordanian Male) u will get in less trouble that way.
Try all kinds of food there.

where can i study abroad? We Answered:
Which ever program you choose, make sure they are listed with the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They routinely audit programs for quality. If I may, I would like to cast a vote for Youth For Understanding (YFU). I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer with YFU (in the USA). When I have asked exchange students why they chose YFU, I get the following answers: (1) YFU gave them more bang for their buck and/or (2) someone they knew and trusted recommended YFU. 95% of the fees collected by YFU go for direct program costs (airline tickets, support in hosting country, etc.). YFU has been around for 59 years and has learned how to make exchanges successful.
Note: You will need to be at least 15 (some countries require older) to go on exchange.
If I counted correctly, YFU has summer programs to 26 countries (including 3 English-speaking programs and 5 Spanish-speaking programs - just remember that it will be winter anywhere south of the equator) this year. Each year the list may vary slightly, but chances are high that your choice will be there next year or the year after. (I personally feel that the Junior year is a good time to go.) There are also dozens (I didn't count) of programs to countries where you don't need to study the language before you go.
Cost varies immensely from country to country. Summer programs will typically be $6500 to $8000. Year and semester programs will be around $8000 to $11000. The biggest expense is training volunteers and supporting the offices in the hosting country and these expenses don't change much if you spend less time there.
The website (yfu-usa.org) has a ton of information, including all of the prices, scholarship information, country list, etc. You can narrow your searches by language, length of stay, special program (like art or music), etc.
Good luck to you no matter what you choose!
