Study For The Asvab
Maria Said:
Quickest way to study ASVAB. Where are the actual questions and answers for it?We Answered:
The test is weighted in the following areas:1. Math Knowledge 2. Math Reasoning 3. Word Knowledge 4. Paragraph Comprehension.
No need to bother studying or parts 3 and 4.
#4 - If you can read and answer simple questions about what you just read then you'll be fine. There's no way to study for this, BUT there is a trick! They try to catch you up on the actual questions...so, pay CLOSE attention to WHAT IS ACTUALLY BEING ASKED. You must read the questions CAREFULLY and you can get 100% on this section easily.
#3 - For word knowledge again, you cannot study for this. Either you know the definition of the words you are being asked about or you don't. They'll ask you words that are found in common American speech and books/literature. If you've spent any amount of time reading books in school then you'll do just fine. You will most certainly know at least 80% of the words.
Parts 1 & 2 are where you want to spend your time studying since you have limited time.
#1 & #2 - The ASVAB is almost entirely composed of algebra, algebra, and little bit of geometry. You should go to Borders Books and either purchase the ASVAB for Dummies book, or if you don't have cash, still in the store and read it there. Bring your calculator and spend no less than 4 hours per day over the days you have remaining for study. Note that you will NOT be allowed the use of a calculator on the exam - this is just so you can learn the concepts quickly and efficiently, and check your answers.
I guarantee that you will've forgotten some of these common, but simple concepts which you probably haven't seen for a couple of years if you're 17 or 18. Trust me when I tell you that the book breaks down each and every concept you will need to know and how to do it. Nearly every question in the Dummies book appeared on the ASVAB and was almost identical in format.
To maximize your study time, skip any concept that you cannot get right off the bat. Focus on the "easy" ones... It pays on this exam to KNOW A FEW THINGS WELL, rather than to try to cram everything, which WILL fail! Knowing a few things well will ensure that you get several questions correct that fall under one concept that you learned well.
Finally, what will help you with section #2 the most is getting familiar again with your measurements. I mean...knowing how to calculate cubic measurements, miles per hour, inches per foot/yard/meter, convert Celsius to Farenheit and vice-versa, volume, area (length x width for a square or rectangle, area of a triangle (length x width x height), circumference of a circle, all your triangles (think isosceles, right-angles, etc.). Some of this stuff mentioned falls under geometry, fyi.
On a final note, much of what I have mentioned above are give aways! Stuff like knowing the difference between a right triangle and isosceles is much easier to learn AND retain than spending all your valuable time trying to re-learn the Sum of Squares rule. Both questions will be worth the same number of points on the exam so don't waste your time on the harder concepts unless you have extra time to spare, which you probably won't in only a few days time.
Get this book and follow my advice and you WILL not only pass, but you can do so with flying colors! I got an 82 on my ASVAB (and could've done better) with only two days worth of study time at best. You can do it! Feel free to shoot me and email if you have more questions.
Good luck!
