Colleen Said:

What's the best way to study French in France?

We Answered:

When I moved to France I didn't speak a word of French. I enrolled at Tours University and took a course there which was far cheaper than a language school and you get to meet others in the same situation. If you are only staying in France for a short while then staying with a French family is the best way. Forget your maternal language and speak only French. You will be amazed at how much you learn.

Good luck

Harry Said:

how well must you know french to study in france?

We Answered:

I am assuming that you do not intend to pursue your studies in one of the English Language universities in France, such as the American University in Paris but a French university. In that case, your French has to be much better than average. If you intend to pursue literature studies, then your French has to be near-native level of comprehension and communication. Pick up a Zola book in French, something like "Nana" - do you understand it? It is pretty basic and should not present any difficulties. If you effortlessly comprehend it, you are ok. Try watching something like "Indochine" - while a bit complex, any good French speaker can comprehend every word in it. If you find any difficulties, take an intensive French course. The best place to study French is at the nearest Centre Culturel.

If you really want to study in France, rest assured that their education system is EXCELLENT and you won't ever regret taking that step. Don't allow language to stand as a barrier - apply yourself and you can do it :)
