How do I find a comprehensive syllabus for A-level study from home?We Answered:
Which exam board? Which syllabus? All those things and more are freely available from the website of your chosen exam board, be that Cambridge (CIE), Edexcel, OCR, AQA, CCEA or WJEC. You do however need to choose an exam board then choose the particular syllabus you want to study (exam boards sometimes offer more than one syllabus for the same subject at A Level). You can then download everything you need (syllabus summaries, detailed syllabuses, booklists, past papers, marking schemes, guidance notes, subject specifications, past reports from examiners [on where previous candidates went wrong] etc etc) specific to your chosen syllabus from the exam board website.British exam boards offering A Levels:
1. Cambridge: http://www.cie.org.uk/qualifications/aca…
2. Edexcel: http://www.edexcel.com/quals/gce/gce08/P…
3. AQA:
http://web.aqa.org.uk/qual/gce/english.p…
4. OCR:
http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/typ…
5. CCEA: http://www.ccea.org.uk (click on AS/A2 in the qualifications search box for details of their A Levels)
6. WJEC: http://www.wjec.co.uk/index.php?subject=…
The list is in no particular order. If you're not 'tied into' studying any particular syllabus with any particular exam board, you should look through all the options before making your final choice of who you want to go with.
P.S. Before you do finally settle on your choice of exam board and syllabuses though, don't forget you will have to find and organise your own exam centre when the time comes; hence, you may want to investigate not only which schools and colleges around you accept external/private candidates (which is what you'll be!) for the necessary A Level exams, but consider using the same exam board and same syllabus as them. It'll make your life easier and less stressful at exam time if you don't have to travel halfway across the country to get to an exam centre that's registered with your chosen exam board!
P.P.S. As well as sites such as http://www.freeexampapers.com , you may also want to check out the various A Level forums at The Student Room ( http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdis… ). They also have classified boards selling off used textbooks et cetera cheaply; as well as an extensive library of past papers; and heaps of advice, support and expert guidance/informal tutoring* on particular A Level subjects and topics; and so on and so on.
( *may be something that turns out to be of use to you if you're planning to 'go it alone' without a handy teacher to ask if/when you find something puzzling, get stuck on a particular concept etc!! )

Can I study from home, allthough I already go to college? We Answered:
Don't know. I would like to do that. My class is driving me mad. The amount of times I've thought about packing it in. I got a DD as well and in my second year as well. I would find studying from home more easier. My teachers are pathetic when it comes to teaching. Ask your tutor, Senior tutor or subject teachers. If not, Have you got a Connexions nearby. If so, go there and they will help you. Good luck in whatever you do.
