Study In Amsterdam

Tracy Said:

Should I study in Amsterdam or Vienna?

We Answered:

The first thing you should check is the language. if you speak german then choose Vienna or If you are able to take Dutch lessons then go on for Amsterdam.
another thing you should check is the cost of living in each city.
check also the university guide about the funds.
Europe is expensive so think smart and make the right choices!

Christian Said:

Im going to study in Amsterdam and was wondering if there are any Sikh temples there?

We Answered:

Yes, there is one Sikh Temple in Amsterdam. It is named the Guru Nanak-temple.

DIRECTIONS IN 4 STEPS:

1) From Uilenstede in Amstelveen: walk to the subway Metro Uilenstede (4 min)

2) From Metro Uilenstede: take Tram 5 (so don't take the metro-line) to Metro Zuid Amsterdam (direction Central Station)

3) From Metro Zuid Amsterdam: take metro 50 (direction isolatorweg) to Metro Isolatorweg

4) From Metro Isolatorweg it is about 10 minutes walk to the Schakelstraat, where you find the Sikh Temple.

Should I move from the US to go study in Amsterdam?

We Answered:

Depends on what you plan to study and how much money you have. Amsterdam is an expensive place to live or even visit. If you want to study overseas, there are many less expensive places to go.

Kirk Said:

Should I study abroad in Amsterdam or London?

We Answered:

You say you've ruled out Italy and Spain for not speaking English, but Amsterdam is in the Netherlands, where they speak Dutch. So I'm not really sure why you've vetoed some countries (particularly ones that speka more widely-spoken languages than Dutch) but are willing to go to Amsterdam.

persoanlly, I'd go to Amsterdam and learn Dutch. Much cooler than just going to London and speaking English, where is the challenge in that? You can easily visit an English-speaking country in the future and get along fine, but you may never have the chance to study in another country and learn a new language again, so why wouldn't you?

How do I get birth control pills in Amsterdam?

We Answered:

You have to have a prescription from a doctor in order to get the birth control pill (which you then get from the chemist "apotheek")

Whilst you can get repeat prescriptions directly from the chemist without going to the doctor (I order mine online with my local chemist and they also sms be prior to running out and I know that other chemist will provide it on the basis of an empty box), for the first lot, you have to get it via the doctor because he/she must perform basic checks (e.g. blood pressure level, weight, and discuss lifestyle with you to make sure which birth control method and even which pill is the right one for you personally)

The only way around this I could see is if you could get your doctor in the US to write you out a prescription and you could get it send over here., If so then you can go to the chemist and they will be able to provide it on that basis, even with the prescription of a foreign doctor. One of my husband's relatives has medication which is incredibly expensive in his home country of Bosnia, and it is cheaper for him to send it to my husband, get it here, and send it back to Bosnia. So I know that the chemist will fulfill a foreign prescription as long as it is generic medicine.

EDIT - wrong JPM, the chemist won't sell it without a prescription. I also use the pill so know this first-hand! It's only the morning-after pill you can get from the chemist (well drogist as well actually) without a prescription, but the morning after pill is not a birth control method and only for emergencies & not for regular use like what the asker is asking about (I assume anyway)

Discuss It!
