We Answered:

i guess you could rent a small flat for around £80 per month (sorry, don't know it in $ )...my brother did when he went to russia...but you have to have pretty good connections and russian to find a good deal...and it depends on where you want to stay...

...1 bus journey is around 20p (in £)...

...and sorry, i don't know about tuition fees...

i went to russia for 3 weeks at christmas and spent around £150 (excluding accomodation), but i'm not sure if the expenses would be the same in kursk....maybe try to find yourself a pen pal over the internet and question them about it :/...you will probably need more money though...

Is it safe for Southeast Asian students to study in Moscow, Russia?

We Answered:

It is physically safe for a Southeast Asian student to study in Moscow. However, you might get starred at alot or get an occasional verbal abuse. I'm studying abroad there (I'm Asian as well) at the moment and the worst encounter I've had with a Russian ended up being just a few hurtful words. I've never even had a violent threat. Russia is truly a unique country and an amazing culture. I would definetly advice going there as it is a beautiful country!

Where in Russia can i study abroad?

We Answered:

personally, if you have to choose between the two, i would choose st petersburg without a doubt.

but, i would recommend looking into some other programs too. i'm not sure where you are from, but if you're from america i can give you a few suggestions. i studied with american councils (http://www.actr.org/index.php) and i absolutely loved it. their university study abroad programs are offered for a summer, semester, or academic year, and you can choose to stay with a russian family or in a dorm (stay with a family if you can! it will do wonders for your russian!) you can choose to go to either moscow, st petersburg, or vladimir. since you prefer to go where there aren't so many people i would recommend vladimir; thats where i stayed. its a city about 4 hours east (maybe north too?) outside of moscow on the klyazma river. it a gorgeous old city and its part of russia's golden ring. its not too crowded, but it is still a city, so there are always things to do. and also, it is rich with russian culture. and you could always easily take a trip to moscow or st petersburg, not to mention the other cities of the golden ring)!
the other university program i know of is CIEE (http://ciee.org/program_search/search_re… i don't know much about this program and i think they only offer courses in st petersburg.

also, most colleges will accept credit from both of these programs, just make sure to check beforehand!

hope i was of some help!

How much can it cost me to study in Russia?

We Answered:

The cost will be vary across the field of studies and of course medicine will be the highest course ever. I got 2 friends there, one in Volgograd & another in Moscow, both of them doing their 1st degree in medicine. Of course, we're not Russians, we're Malaysians. Why Russia ?. Lower cost than other European countries especially UK & EU.

The relevant details on syllabus, tuition fees, acommodation, living expenses (estimated) & miscellanous expenses you could get from the college/university that you're interested to join. Another alternative is contact the Russian Embassy Office in your country and of course, they'll help you especially on visa application.

NB: Make sure you're good in Russian, both, writing & speaking.

I want to study abroad in Russia?

We Answered:

You can certainly study abroad, but you'll want to find a good program. As someone else said, it might be easier to wait for college, but you can do summer programs next year if you don't want to wait. I am currently in Russia, and just finished studying on the GRINT Russian program- they had a five week program in St. Petersburg, and options for a five or ten week program summer program here in Moscow. There's plenty of options during the year, but those would be more available to college students. Moscow living is pricey, so if you don't have relatives here, you'll want to find a program which includes living expenses- I'm living with relatives, which cut down on the cost of the program, but GRINT had both homestay and dorm options, which I think cost the same. Homestay would be good to practice your Russian. As for working, some programs prohibit it to a certain extent- if you get a "studenchesky billet" - (student ticket/card), they usually don't want you to be making money on the side. Still, you can get around it to some extent, just look into the particular job you want. Since you already know Russian so well, you could try just to come and get a job for a summer, since Russian programs will cost a lot- but you need to have some living option.
